The Balance

Chapter 40

I open the door to my house, "Hello?" I call out, "Stefan?"

I drove back through the night because Stefan said Kathrine has taken a "tragic turn" and is dying.  She wanted everyone to be there for her final moments. On top of that, Elena and Damon broke up and according to Matt, Damon isn't handling it well.

My phone buzzes and it's Klaus's name flashing on the screen. I hit ignore and I've been ignoring Klaus's calls. He didn't like the idea of me coming back to Mystic Falls without his protection, especially since it's a going around he needs my blood to further his hybrid bloodline. On top of that I'm pretty sure we broke up..again.

Damon, Matt and Jeremy are all siting around shots of bourbon. "I didn't realize it was going ti be a party?" I lean against the railing. Matt and I make eye contact but before I can smile at him he quickly looks away.

"Hello little sister," Damon grins at me, "we are just taking a shot for every bad thing Kathrine Pierce has ever done to us. Care to join?" His hands me a shot. "Rule number one: Name the worst thing Katherine Pierce has ever done. Rule number two: Toast to the glory of her impending death. Rule number three: If you come across something that's worse, which you will, repeat rules one and two."

I stare at it for a moment, "If Kathrine never ran away from Klaus he would have been able to make his hybrids centuries ago." I bring the glass to my lips, "and it would have save all of us a lot of pain and death."

I throw the shot back and it burns.

"So how were you able to escape Klaus to come home for a bit?" Damon grins.

I throw my clothes into my bag and zip it shut. I walk to the bathroom to grab my toothbrush. "I'm going home Klaus."

He grabs my bag and starts to unpack it for me, "I'd really like if you would stay."

I glare at him. "My brothers asked for me and I am going to be there for them."

"What could they possibly want now? Another plan to rescue poor Elena from something?" He says, "What about Tyler? What if he is there and decide he is going to take the opportunity of you being alone and kill you?"

"He wouldn't do that."

"Really love?" Klaus walks closer to me, "didn't he just try to kill you?"

I snatch my bag, "Leave Tyler out of this. I am leaving and if you get in my way I will never speak to you again."

"If you walk out that door don't come back." Klaus threatens.

I pause, "You don't get to threaten me. Not after all the lies, all the betrayal, all the times you've broken my heart over and over again!" I cry out, "I'm back here to help watch the mother of your baby, remember? The woman you hooked up with behind my back?"

I laugh, "Do you even know what you want with me? Is it to control me? Let me go be with my family and be around people who actually love  me."

After a few hours all of us including Caroline, Elena and Bonnie are taking shots in Katherine's memory.

"We are out of booze" Damon holds up a bottle.

"I'll go get some" Matt stands up.

"Rumor has it, she burnt down the entire city of Atlanta once." Damon goes on.

"That might win." Jeremy says before taking another shot.

Stefan enters from upstairs. "All right. Knock it off or take it somewhere else. You guys are being insensitive."
