If I Told You [Completed]

Shopping Trip

Over the next few weeks, Stephanie and Melissa had somehow gotten way closer. They spent a lot of time with each other and by now, they knew a lot about each other.

But Melissa had a vacation trip planned already that she had planned before they met, so she would be in Germany for a little under 2 months. 

Melissa wanted to spend her last day in the United States, before she left, with Stephanie, who was now her close friend. Sawyer, of course, opposed to the idea of the two of them spending that much time together. 

"Why do you spend more time with her than your own brother?" He pouts when Melissa comes to pick up Stephanie for their excursion. 

She laughs at his childish antics. "Child, I spent 9 months next to you and 16 years living with you. And, anyways, I'd like to spend time with my future sister-in-law." 

Sawyer and Stephanie both choke on their own saliva when they hear her say those words. 

"What?" Stephanie asks after she catches her breath. 

Melissa looks at her, raising her eyebrow slightly. "What do you mean "What?" It's obvious you two love each other." Melissa says, as if stating the obvious. 

"I think you're wrong. I have no feelings for Stephanie." He says, immediately regretting it when he sees Stephanie. 

Stephanie can feel her heart drop in her chest at those words. I mean, sure, she never thought Sawyer and her could have the same relationship but there was no point in not trying at least. Her expression went from smiling, to expressionless, and then to a fake smile. 

Melissa looks at him skeptically. "You're lying to yourself." She looks at Stephanie. "Steph, don't worry. He likes you." 

"Hey!" Sawyer interrupts. "Don't lie to her like that."

"Oh please, I knew you for 16 years and plus I'm your twin. I think I know when you have feelings for someone." Melissa says, scoffing at the end. 

Sawyer doesn't argue back and just walks away with his arms crossed over his chest with a pout on his face. 

Stephanie looks at the one standing next to her, Melissa. "Well, we should go now." 

"Well, actually. I did want to invite Sawyer if that's fine with you?" Melissa asks, gesturing towards Stephanie. She nods. "Okay. Sawyer!" She yells throughout the house. 

"What?!" He yells back at them. 

"Come on, we want to go shopping with you!" Stephanie yells. 

"Fine! I'm coming." Sawyer says as he walks down the stairs. He walks down with khakis and a button-down shirt. He looks towards Stephanie for some sort of reaction, but her face is expressionless. 

"Well damn Sawyer. Why'd you dress nice?" Melissa teases him with a small smirk on her face. 

"Am I just not allowed to dress nice anymore?" Sawyer asks. 

"Well, you are, but we're just going to the mall jeez." She says.

"Whatever, let's just go." Stephanie says, slightly pissed off. 

"Yah, we should probably leave now." Sawyer says, making his way towards them. 

Stephanie walks out first with Melissa following shortly behind. Sawyer is last and as he locks the door behind him, he looks down and sighs. He was expecting some kind of reaction from Stephanie, but instead he got one from his sister. 

The car ride was silent, the music playing in the background. The three of them may have been in the exact same car, going to the exact same place, but none of them talked. Not a single word was said during the car ride. 

Once they arrived at the mall, however, they did actually start talking. 

"So, where do we plan on going exactly?" Stephanie asks. She walked around gracefully, bouncing on the tips of her feet. She seemed excited despite her earlier mood. 

"Well, I'm not sure. I was just planning on walking around and going inside any store that I want honestly." Melissa shrugs. 

"Let's do that." Sawyer says. They look at him. "I mean, we have time so why not?" 

They all shrug and decide to go ahead with the idea. 

While walking around looking for a shop to walk into, Melissa starts talking. "So, future sister-in-law, how has Sawyer been treating you?" 

Stephanie looks up at her surprised, then turns back to Sawyer. She looks down again, fiddling with her hands while watching her feet land on the tiled floor. "Uhm..." She hesitates to answer. 

Melissa immediately notices the hesitation in her voice and turns around to hit Sawyer's arm. "Sawyer! What did you do to Stephanie?" She accuses. 

Sawyer looks at Stephanie as he was about to answer, but her eyes plead for him to not answer. 

"No, no. It's fine. It was my fault anyway." Stephanie answers quickly, lying. Sawyer raises his eyebrow at her answer. She looks behind her at him and her eyes beg, Just stop talking and move on. 

Melissa looks at her skeptically but decides to go with it. "Okay, but if Sawyer has hurt you in any way, shape, or form, come tell me, okay?" 

"Oh, okay. I will." She answers with a slight smile present on her face. 

"Good," she turns to look to Sawyer. "And you sir. I expect to have no complaints from Stephanie, okay? You got that? Don't hurt her." She scolds. 

Sawyer looks down, slightly hurt. He was ashamed almost, disappointed at least. 

Both Stephanie and Sawyer look down at the ground. Stephanie slows down her pace slightly to be walking next to Sawyer. Her hand goes out to Sawyer's and he takes her hand, holding it. Their hands were now interlocked, not romantically, just for each of them to know that the other was there right then. 

They continued walking with their hands together, Melissa somehow not noticing. 

They walk into multiple stores and walked around for what seems like hours, but Sawyer and Stephanie are in their own little world right now. Their surroundings blur and they no longer pay attention to where they are or where Melissa has led them. They just keep walking like the rest of the world isn't there.

Right now, nothing else mattered. The only thing that mattered was that they were both okay.
