Years Ago
"I can't like him Mia!"
The two of them, Ashley and Mia, sat atop of the snow girls bed. Mia was painting her toe nails a dark forest green colour as she barely listened to her best friend. Danny had gone. He was at a conference with his dad somewhere in the regions of Canada. Ashley made sure of that before she'd invited Mia around for this rather unheard of 'girl' talk.
"Why not? He's hot and has basically been professing his love to you from the moment I got here."
Ashley shook her head; that was a lie. Herself and Danny were friends, best friends, but he'd never wanted more than that. Had he? But ever since that day, Ashley shuddered thinking back to what had happened. Lawson was back and that was a partial reason for Mia being here; she didn't want to be alone. But ever since then Ashley had felt something- she always felt something when it came to Danny, but this was something different- when he told her 'I love you' something had exploded and flown around Ashley's stomach a couple hundred times.
"We can't be together," Ashley stated, "I'm not his mate." The answer was simple in her mind but Mia yet again had to pick at it. "How do you know that?"
"Know what?" The snow girl asked confusedly. Nonchalantly, Mia screwed the lid back on to the nail varnish and set it aside while she blew on her nails between statements. "How do you know for sure that you're not his mate?"
She was silent, of course Ashley didn't know. She wouldn't know for another five months. Five months... that wasn't so long anymore. Her face paled.
"He can't be my mate," she whispered faintly. Mia was staring at her, bored at first but then her expression morphed into a comforting smile. She'd promised her master that she would learn anything that would be of any interest to him. And interesting was where this conversation was going...
"Ashley how can you not see that you two are made for each other? The whole pack has for years!" She exclaimed, not entirely sure whether or not she should be talking Danny up or down.
Ashley groaned and fell back onto the bed. The pink netting above her head was almost all frayed now.
"Fine, I get it. You don't like him like that."
Ashley nodded to herself thoughtfully.
The bed suddenly jolted as Mia sprang up from where she had been sitting. She walked up to the window and turned her head away from Ashley. Get her away from the territory. Mia bit her lip, her heart hammering her chest as she looked at Ashley still staring at the cieling. Calm down! he demanded, you'll give yourself away. She gulped.
"I have an idea," Mia said out of the blue. Ashley lulled her head to the side and asked in a bored tone, "yeah?"
"Why don't we just go into town. You know what the girls at school say," she smirked and waited for Ashley's impersonation.
Just as she had expected, Ashley pulled a chunk of hair out of her ponytail and twirled it around her finger for extra effect. "Oh my god, you just need to like totally forget about him! Hey, why don't we go into town at the weekend. We can like so totally perv on all of the guys there and then we can like buy everything."
It made Mia laugh and she came to sit back down on the bed. "What do you think?" she asked, hopeful now.
"Oh you're serious?" Ashley stammered. Her last trip into town didn't go so well and now Danny wasn't here, she really didn't feel like going anywhere.
"Yeah why not?" Mia said, guilting her friend into it by adding, "we never really got to look around last time because of your- you know- freak out as it were."
The snow girl shook her head. "I'm sorry Mia, I'm just really not feeling up to it."
Mia sighed cruely. "You know, you were so much more fun when you wore that leather jacket."
Not sure whether she was joking or not, Ashley said, "I didn't even talk to you."
Rolling her eyes, Mia sighed. Oh the good days when Lawson thought that Ashley had just volunteered herself up to him unknowingly on a silver plate as she stopped any contact with anybody- especially Danny.
"Fine, I'm going to go; I have some homework that needs doing." The hostility was evident in her voice.
Ashley quickly scrambled up to sit on her feet. "But you haven't told me what I should do yet." The innocence laced into her voice was amusing.
Mia smirked evily and told her friend, "why don't you just kill the boy and then your free of him."
The snow girl raised an unimpressed eyebrow. "Mia, I know you don't like him, but-" Mia rudely interupted, saying, "no, I hate him."
"Please, this is for me."
Mia looked at her friend. The one who had accepted her when no one else would. The one that she had lied to ever since day one. Did that mean that she owed her something?
Annoyed, she sat back down and said, "the easiest thing, would be to just avoid him for awhile." It was obvious solution, but of course someone as blind as Ashley wouldn't see it. "I don't know, you know Danny. If I just started ignoring him then he'd know something was up." Mia narrowed her eyes, but hid her anger.
"Fine," she said through gritted teeth. "Why don't you just concentrate all of that sexual frustration on someone else." She enjoyed watching Ashley's face at the mere mention of 'sex.' She was like a little kid, as she scrunched up her nose and cringed.
Surprisingly though, she submitted and asked in a quiet voice, "like who?" Mia hardly believed what she heard. Nonetheless, she grinned triumphantly and said, "Kye."
"Kye Latham."
Only short, sorry. Mia's evil side shining through- evil minx.
I've been majorly editing my early chapters because they were horrendous.... not anymore! Hazar!
I am going away for two weeks so I won't be able to write until then but I will be writing whilst I'm away so I should hopefully be able to get something out pretty much straight as I get back.
Have a great Easter all! Love the snow girl xoxo
