Ashleys legs were jolting the table again, as if some unseen puppet master was pulling her strings teasingly. However this time she wasn't nervous, or scared, or upset. She felt more alive than ever as she watched the car park for the familiar silver Jeep. No matter how hard she tried, she could not keep the smile off her face. After she had decided to accept the mate bond, Ashley had rushed into her room where Danny was already waiting, thanks to the unlocked window. They talked for hours, it was only when she yawned that they realised the time. Danny left then, when he got home, a smirking Kieran was waiting in his room.

"What time do you call this?" he asked. Danny couldn't have cared less, he flopped down onto the bed and fell asleep with an alluring smile etched right across his face.

The very same goofy grin that was stretched across Ashley's face at that very moment, so wide that Mia feared her lips may split. This was how she found her this morning and still no change had come to her best friend.

She had tried talking to her, but apparently Ashley was to far away in la la land that she didn't take any notice of what Mia was saying.

"Okay fine! I give up," Mia sighed and crossed her arms over her chest childishly. "Lets just hope Danny is in a better mood too" she huffed under her breath. Obviously Ashley heard, and at the mention of her mate, her eyes widened.

"What did you say?" she pounced at Mia eagerly. "Woah, steady tiger!" Mia warned her and sat across the table. She narrowed her eyes at her best friend, or imposter, she thought notably. The only one lucky enough to have seen Ashley smile like this before was most likely Danny. She felt a twinge of jealousy in her gut before telling herself to snap out of it.

Mia had always accepted that from Ashley. She was second best. Only because Ashley and Danny had known each other longer and he had gotten into her head long before she could even try. Mia had never told Ashley about this accusation because she knew that she would deny it. She also wouldn't want to put her best friend in that position, she remembered just how Ashley accepted her as a friend when Danny stuck up his nose. They still never truly got along, but I guess they tried, for Ashley's sake.

"Lover boy was in a strop as well yesterday," she explained and placed her two coffee coloured hands onto the icy table top. She couldn't help but compare her own tanned complexion with Ashley's snow white, porcelain looking skin. Werewolves were supposed to be tanned, handsome, pretty and strong. But Ashley was so strong and beautiful, that she hadn't a need for darker skin.

Ashley chewed the inside of her lip. A horrible habit of hers that Mia had tried to make her cut out a long time ago. The silence became deafening and the only sound that Mia could process was the tearing of Ashleys teeth against the inside of her mouth. Mia cringed at the grotesque sound but Ashley seemed to find it amusing.

"Oh yeah," she snapped her fingers, remembering what she was going to say. "Danny wasn't happy with me because I ran away from him. I didn't know it was him though! I just thought that it was my mat-" she clamped a hand over her mouth, catching Mia by surprise. She looked at the snow girl with wide eyes, as she began to giggle through the gaps in her hand. "What is wrong with you?" Mia voiced each word slowly. Ashley couldn't help herself she threw her head back laughing, relief mostly washed over her.

I have a mate, she thought. I have a mate and its Danny. My best friend Danny.

The words came out as laughter because she so wanted to tell her other best friend about him. But could she, without him being here? She shook her head, it would be a surprise, she would have to wait for him. Would Mia be annoyed with her? she suddenly worried. She's been the one trying to veer off any of Ashley's emotions for her best friend.
