Years Earlier
Ashley wore her hair down and walked right past the jeep. Danny caught her scent the moment she walked out of the front glass doors of Grove High school, but then she ignored him.
He was worried; she'd been doing it again, shutting him out. At least it wasn't everyone this time.
It seemed that she was spending more time with Mia and the humans than Danny and Kieran. They weren't happy, even the Alpha had questioned Ashley's actions the past couple of weeks.
Ashley wanna go for a run? Danny mind linked and started the car. He cruised out of the lot and saw a flash of Ashley's long silky hair disappear into the tree line by the side of the jam packed road.
Ash where are you going? He knew that she could hear him, but when she didn't reply again, he dropped it to avoid sounding like a love sick teenager- which he was.
His knuckles whitened on the steering wheel. Mia was sat on the back seat, humming a tune with her head phones in. Did she have any idea how annoying that was!
"Yes in fact I do, it's just funny winding you up," she smirked. Danny shot daggers at her through the mirror, if anything, it made Mia feel even more threatened, he couldn't turn his back on her in this small space. She hoped that Lawson was nearby because whenever Ashley wasn't around, Danny really did become a big obstacle- and a scary one too!
Instead of shouting at her like he usually did whenever he got the chance, he relaxed his hands to prevent snapping yet another wheel and asked annoyed, "so what's her problem this time? Why is she avoiding me?"
Mia raised a picturesque pointed brow and her chocolate brown eyes seemed to smile at his discomfort while her lips wore a scowl. She remembered how before they realised how protective Danny was over Ashley, Lawson's plan for her was to seduce him and keep her as far away from Ashley as possible. She shuddered in disgust at the thought. "I'm not your councillor Danny maybe you two really should consider one of them," she smiled fake and patronisingly.
The fire boy growled in the pit of his stomach, "so help me Mia! Ashley's not here now and-"
"And what? Are you seriously just going to keep empty threating me forever?" she asked, irritated by his constant droning promises to end her.
He scoffed, "You're not going to be here forever, I'll make sure of that, and so will Kieran. You think that he's going to let you stay once he's Alpha, no way!"
Mia swallowed then, she hadn't thought of that, had Lawson? No, we'll have to hurry up if we want Ashley for good. His beautiful voice filled her mind and she swooned, leaning back on the barely comfortable jeep seats.
"Mia!" Danny demanded, they were back in the pack village, the safety of the Alpha, she thought relieved. "What?" she snapped, willing herself to make a run for it home. Home to a mother and little sister. They had no idea why they were here. Mia had had to convince them to come to The Starlight pack when her Mother had desperately wanted to join The Moonshadow pack. It was only across the ravine, but a river made it that much harder to get closer to Ashley. The perfect princess, always so cute, prude, pale. Always so innocent and curious and boring.
"Why is Ashley avoiding me again?" Danny asked, he turned in his seat so that he was fully facing her. He had locked the car doors during Mia's space out, so if she even tried to get out, she couldn't.
Mia twisted the handle but the door wouldn't budge. She gritted her teeth and then looked back at an unfazed Danny. Sighing, "have you ever thought that maybe your infatuation with her is a bit too much for her to handle?" she said spitefully, "maybe it hadn't crossed you tiny, pigeon sized mind, that Ashley doesn't feel anything for you. You're nothing but the first person she met when she came her, and now you're creeping her out with your ogling all of the time. She likes Kye okay and that's where she is now, getting space from you, and spending time with Kye." She really drove it home with that sentiment and smiled smugly as she watched his eyes drop and pan filling his face as his jaw set to one side as he ground his teeth together, somehow creating a screeching sound that irritated Mia's hearing.
