Years Earlier
Danny followed Ashleys scent as he had many times before. This time was different though. This time he was following his mate. She didn't know it yet, but she soon would.
A smile was etched onto his face like a hanger. He had felt the hairs stand up straight on her arms, the claminess of her hand clamped onto his arm, and the rapid beating of her heart as their breaths had mingled and he had touched her soft lips again.
Leaved were falling to the ground all around him and he lost himself in the perfect moment, letting his instincts run ahead to find his mate.
Her converse clad feet swaying a leg beneath the branch was the first thing Danny saw before taking in the rest of her. Her back was to him and her long mane of chocolate brown hair fluttered only slightly in front of her shoulders where he imagined the strands hanging by her stomach.
Danny made his way beneath her and stared up to see deep concentration carved into her features like a statue of the moon goddess. He had never seen a more beautiful, yet so intense on any other person but her.
Is she thinking about me? he hoped naively. Her head tilted to the side so that it was leaning on her shoulder as she effortlessly looked down upon the fire boy. The blue in the snow girls eyes' had lost their acute sharpness. Instead, they were glassy like she had just been in the process of crying.
"Ash, you okay?" she didn't reply. Instead, she turned her head way and looked into the orange glow of the setting sun. The snow girl could see the ghostly shadow which the ball of fire cast upon her. She wished that she could feel the warmth of it on her pale skin as she closed her eyes.
Do not cry! she willed herself, wishing that the sun would just come closer, creep over the hill, and engulf her into its flames.
Ashley felt the tingling sensation in her fingertips- like pins and needles but more irritating, more painful. She gritted her teeth and tried to hide the branch with the palms of her hands. Her curse was slowly decorating the rough bark in web like designs.
Danny suddenly felt self conscious, had she really not felt a thing? He could have just imagined that her heart rate accelerated, maybe her goose bumps were a result to a sudden chill in the air- or maybe it was disgust...
Suddenly Ashley leaped over him and landed daintily in a crouched position. The fire boy sighed in relief and hurried over to her, when out of the blue she spun around and with an expression of hatred, she spat at him, "just leave me alone Danny!" and then took off.
He wasn't following her yet- not that she could sense anyway. Something cold and weightless touched her gently on the shoulder, turning her head she could just make out the tiny features of a snowflake. Looking up horrified she saw a handful of the stuff raining down on her. There was no way that it was real! It couldn't be; it was summer.
She made a beeline for her bedroom window, the door was still unopened which was a good sign to say that her parents hadn't noticed her absence- she hoped.
Slamming the window closed behind her meant that Danny could not follow her, couldnt not get hurt.
Ashley felt the same rage she had felt the day she'd fought with the human girls, alongside Mia, and the time she had burnt all of her dresses.
She wandered for a moment why she had given up her rebel pasona, wearing black and leather, and kissing boys like they were the deer that she was hunting. Because you love Danny, her wolf smirked. But I'd never felt more powerful! she argued. You'd never felt so alone. I don't need anyone, I only hurt them. Ashley stared into the mirror. Even though her skin was whiter than a piece of paper and her eyebrows were pointed upwards above her stormy eyes, there was a glimmer of rosey pink on the apples of her cheeks which she touched with her palms.
They were still warm.
Danny was coming. Ashley flung herself onto the bed and turned her head just in time to see the door unlock with the help of his supernatural claws.
"So you've learnt how to use a door?" she smirked flatly, "it's only taken you sixteen years."
Danny didn't know whether or not to take her blunt humour as a good sign or bad. Breathing a hopeful sigh, he sat down on the slight bit of duvet she had provided. She didn't move away when he lay down like he'd expected.
Ashley enjoyed the warmth that being close to Danny provided her with, thats why she didn't move away. "What will your mate think? now that we've shared two kisses," she smirked once again. The fire boy stiffened as her breath settled on his skin.
"Mate? All technical now are we?" Danny laughed.
Narrowing her eyes, Ashley tensed her fists and pushed with all her strength. As a result, he rolled off the side of the bed- not that he had alot of it in the first place.
He made a choked coughing sound as he thumped onto the ground and the wind was knocked out of him. His shoulders knocked against the floor as he let out a loud throaty chuckle. Ashleys head appeared just above him. An amused smile tugged at her tight lipped features. "How's the floor Alpha?" she asked playfully.
The fire boy narrowed his eyes and Ashley thought for a moment that she'd made him mad. "You'll know soon enough," he said and before she could even get up, he'd tugged small piece of material she called a top, then pulled her on top of him in such a way that not a single part of her would hit the floor as she fell.
She yelped and then thrashed about, trying to get out of his grip. Knowing that his strength was no match for the she-wolf, he smiled knowlingly.
Finally she got the picture and gave up but not before smacking his shoulder harmlessly. The snow girls ice blue eyes were back to their original frightening and beautiful state, but were suddenly serious as she stared into him. "I didn't feel anything either," she assured him.
Without a word, Danny nodded, his mate cuddled into his chest, and then he layed his head back against the floor.
Woohoo back with a bang. You like?
