Years Earlier
"You can see it too?" she asked excitedly.
"Of course I can Ashley, the lake always freezes in winter," he stated in a bored tone. Ashley stopped and sat on the fence that Danny had just jumped, she stared wide eyed at him. "It's winter?" Danny's eyebrow shot up like an arrow and he picked up his skates.
"Are you seriously asking me that?" he asked and then added, "can't you see all of this snow?" Ashley narrowed her eyes and snapped, "of course I can!" she was frustrated for the first time in the short year she had known Danny.
Danny's eyes rolled and he edged closer holding his arms out idly for her to take and help her down. Ashley slapped them away, "I don't need your help!" she hissed and jumped down off her icy perch, landing hard on her left ankle, twisting it and biting her lip so she didn't whine.
The fire boy stood leaning by the gate as she quickly hobbled to where she had thrown her skates. Never had he known a more bitter girl, her sweet blue eyes didn't explain a single thing about her, it would have been helpful if they wore small signs warning the person not to approach. Still he liked her, his angry side may be even worse than hers he just chose not to release his inner wolf, whereas Ashley's was constantly bearing its teeth.
She was now heading in a hurry to the lake stretched across the bottom of the field like a black gaping mouth, Danny hurried to catch up with her, smiling widly. The lake had always been the best part of the winter, he could skate as many times as he liked around the edges and not worry about being pushed off by other people like you would usually at a public skate rink.
Ashley galnced at him, she laughed at the way his goofy grin filled his face, pushing his cheeks to the side. She could tell that he loved doing this. It had taken him a while to even convince her to come, she thought that he was crazy when he asked her to come skating with her on the lake. Not once had it occured to her that the lake was in fact covered in a sheet of ice.

"Take all the time you need," was Danny's first words of advice. He stepped uneasily onto the ice wearing his skates, wobbling unevenly for a moment before steadying himself by holding his arms out in a 'T' shape.
In reply, she'd rolled her eyes and smirked. She tightened the laces on the ancient looking- and smelling- ice skates and tested them by jumping up a few times. Her legs were only fragile and thin so they moaned at the strange unbalanced feeling, but she soon got the hang of it as she walked around the lake a couple of times.
Ashley then joined him on the ice, gliding easily along as though she were running through the forest. When she sliced past Danny, he stumbled and fell face first towards the ice. He grumbled and crawled to the edge so that he could sit on the frosted ground, "where did you learn to skate?" he shouted to the other side, cupping his hands around his mouth.
Ashley looked content. She looked as though she hadn't heard him as she perfored a couple of impressive jumps on the ice that looked far too thin to hold her weight. Coming right at him down the middle of the lake, she gracefully came to a halt using one foot to stop and spraying a small cloud of ice dust over him. She shrugged and smiled, "I guess it just comes naturally" she admitted slyly before racing off again.
Danny quickly got to his feet and even though his feet shook violently in his boots, he began after her. This was one thing that Danny saw himself as good at and he did not like the fact that today, a day meant for showing off in front of the new girl, he was being shown up by her.

The two of them sat on the bank, taking of their skates after Danny twisted his ankle pretty badly in order to catch up with Ashley.
