I could practically taste his anger as he guided me through the halls and to our wing. Rosabella was waiting outside in the hallway, but quickly reentered her room upon seeing her brother's anger.

Swallowing, I look upon my angry mate and ask, "when do we leave?"

"Tomorrow morning, before day break," is all he tells before disappearing into his own room. "For our safety and no one follows us."

I stood there for a moment in shock before turning to my own room. Rosabella stood in my path and smiled shyly at me. After my time here in the palace I truly pity the princess. I know beneath that shy exterior is an Alpha female hiding and ready to break free. Show the world who she is. Who they have been walking on like a doormat.

"May I help," she asks softly.

A nod of my head indicates I am accepting her offer and we head into my room. I found three large suitcases, a few makeup bags, and a small overnight bag in my large walk in closet. Alongside them I also find dress bags, but I don't intend on bringing dresses along. This is simply for him to "tame" me, train me, and get to know me. Truly though, no one can tame me. I am my own person, and if the council doesn't like that then it's their own fault. Not my problem.

"You know, you are my only friend. Father doesn't allow anyone in the palace after the accident," Rosabella tells.

This is probably the closest I have had to a friend and now she's opening up to me. Opening up to me and trusting after knowing me for a few days.

"What accident," I ask. Out of complete curiosity and not to make small talk.

"When I was a few years old, old enough to sleep in my own bed, someone attacked the palace. At night they attacked and tried to either harm me or kidnap me. We never found the intruder. They disappeared into the night."

I couldn't help but gap. The King, The King Maxwell was unable to find and punish an enemy. That he let them get away after harming the princess. An enemy who dared to harm his daughter, his family. It truly shocked me that the King couldn't get his hands on an enemy and eliminate them. He is notorious for that. His inescapable scent trackers and warriors. No, they aren't as strong as the darker sides of the realm, but they are past expectations.

"Is that why you can't shift?"

She shrugs. "I truly don't know, but that is the first time I've heard that theory. Many believe so, I don't know. Sometimes I believe she was never there to begin with."

I tilt my head to understand. Poor thing. She has to fear for her life and doesn't even have a wolf to protect her. An entire army basically follows her around twenty four seven, even guards her in her sleep. Talk about being discreet. And yet, it's a very fatherly thing to do. I mean extremely protective over his only daughter. I think he'd be like this even if she did have a wolf, but her not having one just added to it.

For the next few hours we engaged in small conversations and stories about ourselves. Thankfully the Princess has a good sense of fashion, as I had none. I hissed a few times when she pulled out and threw lacy undergarments into some of the suitcases. She simply just winked and acted like she did nothing.

This girl.

The overnight bag was mainly filled with training clothes, truly I didn't think I needed that many, but the Princess insisted. How long would I truly be living there?

"I believe if you need more clothes my father will send someone to pack and drop more off to you," she notifies.

"May I ask a question?"

"Go right ahead." She nods inward.

"Is this customary?"

She shakes her head, her strawberry blonde hair flowing side to side with each motion. "No, this is the first time."

"What about with your mom?"

"That is completely different. Dad didn't tell mom he was King, nor did he tell the population. It was more for protection rather than training. You see our population was quite divided when he found her and he didn't want to risk any more disruption."

"I see, and did he train her while he lived in the mansion?"

"No, she lived with my godmother Rowan as roommates. It wasn't until Desmond revealed who my father was to mom and she moved in not too long after that. That didn't last long either, they moved into the palace about six months later."

"So, this is basically my fault?"

She puts her hands up in front of herself, defending herself. "I don't see it like that, but if that is how you want to see it, go ahead."

I tilt my head to the side. "How do you see it?"

She shrugs. "You get to know my brother better, you are getting an education you weren't provided to, and physical training."

I slump my shoulders, feeling bad and like a horrible person now. She loves her brother and obviously wouldn't see it any other way. She sees everything as an opportunity, she is optimistic. She sees the good in everything and everyone. It's a shame the council underestimates her.

I saw it as a punishment, but really I should be taking advantage of it. I am gaining an education I wasn't entitled to thanks to my parents. I am going to physically train due to my wolf disappearing, as it will help until my wolf returns. And finally, I'll get to know my mate better. Something many wolves love doing with their mates. They love being around them and learning about them. It only strengthens the bonds.

Here I am, yet again, denying it. Pushing it away.

A soft knock on the door is followed by the creaking of the old door opening. Theo stands in the doorway, filling it up. Behind him, some men stand.

"Are you packed and ready," he questions.

I simply nod and zip all the bags shut.

"Good, these men will see to your bags and pack them into the cars awaiting us out front."

And so they were. Three black vehicles awaited us out front. Theo loaded us into the middle one and we waited for the signal of my bags being packed into the cars. After that, we were off on our two hour ride to the Alpha Mansion in the heart of the pack.
