The sudden change of road under the car woke me up. It wasn't smooth like the road we've been driving on. This one seemed to be bumpy, maybe like a back way in or an off road road. I peek open one eye to find we aren't in the woods or even going a back way. It's broad daylight and there isn't a canopy overhead like I imagined. Instead we are pulling through the main gates of what looks to be a mansion. The uneven road below was indeed not asphalt, instead it was stone roadway beneath.
I stretch a wince a little at the sound of my joints popping. Sleeping in a car isn't comfortable at all. My neck was sore. Theo was busy on his phone or too busy accustomed to this routine. Instead I looked out my window and marveled at the beautiful mansion before me. It was just as lavish and their palace. The car pulled around the arched driveway which had a fountain with perfectly maintained bushes and flowers around it.
Theo finally looks up from his phone and smiles softly. His eyes sparkling as he beholds his second home. Silently he opens the door and motions for me to follow. The chauffeur holds open the door, Theo wraps his hand around mine and leads me to the front door.
My eyes dart around the room beholding the foyer. The whole mansion has a hard wood floor. Even the sweeping set out stairs had wood banisters. Two sets of curving stairs met us and a small portion of the upstairs hallway was seen. There on the opening was a portrait of the royal family along with a table underneath it with a vase of fresh flowers. The railings of the upstairs hallway that was exposed also had wooden banisters.
A ghost of grin sweeps Theo's face before he motions me to follow him up the stairs.
"Here, I'll show you to your room," he says.
I nod. "Okay."
The steps creaked under our weight and I followed him up the left set of stairs. Overhead in the hallway were simple, but extravagant light fixtures. Each hallway had five rooms. Two on each wall and one in the back of it. Along the wall art hung with lights over them to present them and a carpet runner went from the left wing to the right. Most of the art was portraits of the ruling family and the deceased loved ones.
The last door on the left side opened and revealed a bedroom.
"This is where you'll be staying. My bedroom is the first door in the right wing," he explains. "If you need anything I spend most of my time in the business hallway down stairs. It's where most of our offices are, if you get lost I am sure a maid will assist you."
"Okay," I mumble.
The corner of his points upwards. "Usually this hallway is reserved for my grandparents visiting, but they are away on vacation. So it'll just be us for now."
"Does everyone else resign in the right wing when they visit?"
"Yes." His head bobs.
I bite my lip, feeling my cheeks burn. "When- you know- mate, will I end up merging with you? Like sharing a room?"
A bed.
Truly I didn't like the idea of being alone, even if he is just a few steps away. He tilts his head, assessing me.
"What exactly are you suggesting," he teases.
I bite my lip harder, my eyes looking at him through my lashes. "Okay, I'm scared to sleep alone. Happy?"
He tsks. "Why didn't you say something earlier? I would've had your room set in the other wing. Closer to me."
I drop my head, looking at my feet. I felt the inescapable feeling of embarrassment. His rich laugh echoes off the wall and down the grand staircase. His two fingers simply catch my chin and guide my head up.
"There is no need to be embarrassed, Samantha. It is no big deal. We all have our own fears and that is okay."
Growing up living in the wilderness we had watches at night. Some would stay awake and watch while others slept. This is where the fear stemmed from, not having someone to watch over me and protect me. Even if we are both asleep it is comforting to know he will be able to hear my scream if something does happen.
I nod inwardly.
"While your room is being moved, get changed in the spare bedroom," he instructs.
"Why?"
"We are starting your training. Since your wolf isn't present you are weaker than before. You relied too greatly on your wolf and her strength and now that she is gone. Well- let's say you are a shell of your former self."
I went to argue, but he wasn't wrong. I needed to train my human body and regain the muscles I once had thanks to my wolf. Her strength reflected into my human body and now that is all gone.
I went to the room he told me to go to and change. A pair of leggings, sports bra, jacket, and sneakers were waiting for me in a near pile.
I met him in the training room where he stood in the middle of a ring, shirtless.
