Snow swirled against the windows as Christmas quickly approached. Much to Lucy's displeasure, this also meant she would be returning home shortly. However, it was hard for her to be glum when glimmering Christmas trees now filled the entire castle. On the banisters of the staircases, garlands of holly and tinsel had been elegantly strung. To Draco's delight, bunches of mistletoe had been hung at random intervals along the corridors. He loved nothing more than to pull Lucy underneath them when the corridors emptied out, and sneak in a kiss or two, or even three.
Meanwhile, the day of Slughorn's Christmas party arrived, resulting in Lucy and Arielle taking the whole day to excitedly get ready for the event. It was an all-day process to curl Lucy's hair, according to Arielle.
Hours later after Arielle had done her finishing touches, the two emerged into the common room where their dates anxiously awaited them. Draco's eyes grew wide as saucers at the beautiful raven haired girl in her shimmering silver dress. Her hair was a long curtain of black ringlets, and her lips were a glossy pink. Ornate silver earrings dangled from her ears that swayed side to side as she strolled over to him beaming. Lucy was delighted to see Draco freshly cleaned up in his black suit with an emerald tie. Suddenly, nobody else in the common room mattered as she cautiously approached, nervous that she would stumble in her heels.
"Bloody hell, you look stunning," Draco mumbled breathlessly as he gently took her hand into his own.
"Well, you look rather handsome yourself, you know," Lucy giggled before moving a stray wisp of hair away from her face.
The blonde seemed to stand up a little straighter at this comment as his cheeks flushed pink. Hand in hand, the two followed Blaise and Arielle out the door, following the sound of music to the party.
Whether it had been built that way, or because he had used magical trickery to make it so, Slughorn's office was much larger than the usual teacher's study. The ceiling and walls had been elegantly draped with emerald, crimson, and gold hangings so that it looked as though they were all inside a vast tent. The room was crowded and stuffy, bathed in the red light cast by an ornate golden lamp dangling from the center of the ceiling. Real fairies fluttered around the room, each a brilliant speck of light. Jubilant music poured from all corners of the room as a group of partygoers waltzed upon the dance floor. Servants in white uniforms rotated around the room with silver platters full of food and drink.
"Don't mind if I do!" chortled an amused Blaise as he took a glass of mead off of a tray. Arielle rolled her eyes at her date before dragging him off into the thick of the crowd.
Lucy and Draco casually began to make their way about the room, noticing that Potter and Granger were also present.
"Ms. Armstrong!" chortled an already tipsy Professor Slughorn in a plaid suit that threatened to pop at any given moment. In hand, he held a rather full glass of mead and a big grin upon his face. He was surrounded by a bunch of men she had never met before, all with rather bushy mustaches.
