The twenty-second of November was a day that never particularly stood out to Lucy, despite its importance. She was never really one to make a fuss about her birthday. She simply did not see the reason to celebrate making it yet another year on the planet.
It had been weeks since Draco's confession. Since then, whatever was between them had grown as they realized they were both walking a fine line between life and death. At least they could do it together.
The odds were certainly not in her favor for this year of life as Lucy chose to put on her favorite cream sweater and a pair of Muggle jeans for the weekend trip to Hogsmeade.
"You look nice today," Arielle complimented as she walked out of the lavatory. "Would it have anything to do with...your birthday?"
Lucy rolled her eyes and sighed softly as she tugged on her black puffer coat. "Bloody hell, I was hoping you wouldn't remember which day it was,"
"Oh please, I'm your best friend," retorted Arielle, handing her a poorly well package in slightly crumbled brown wrappings. "Surprise!"
"Oh Arielle, you shouldn't have, really," Lucy sighed, smiling hopelessly at her friend as she sat down upon her bed and tore open the brown paper. Inside the package was a new silk headband adorned with a pretty green and white floral print. Underneath it, Lucy found a package of Fizzing Whizbees.
"D'you like it?" asked her friend eagerly.
Lucy beamed up at her. "I love it. Thank you so much Ari,"
The two girls gently embraced before Arielle insisted that Lucy try out a new lip gloss that magically changed colors at will.
Soon enough, they had joined the rest of their friends in the common room. Arielle immediately leeched onto Blaise as they began to snog. Pansy made a fake gagging noise that caused Crabbe and Goyle to chuckle. Theo was noticeably absent, as he seemingly continued to protest the whatever had bloomed between Draco and Lucy.
Draco gazed affectionately at Lucy as she approached his side and whispered a greeting. He wore a rather casual outfit in contrast to his usual attire, consisting of a grey jumper and black trousers. It took him no time at all to wrap an arm loosely around her waist as the group began their walk to Hogsmeade.
Outside, the sun sparkled against the bright white snow creating an almost blinding effect. Lucy quite enjoyed the way the snow cautiously perched upon the branches of the towering trees surrounding the castle. Meanwhile, the blanket of snow upon the ground went all the way up to nearly to her knees. However, Lucy was fortunate that the path had been plowed early that morning so that it would not be a cold, treacherous walk to the village.
