chapter 18

matts pov:
today is amelia's birthday. i wake up to the sun shining in from the window. sylvie still asleep her head resting on my shoulder and arm draped around my waist. i carefully reach over for the baby mointor to check on amelia. she was still asleep which was nice considering she has not been sleeping. i put the baby monitor back down. i moved sylvie hair out of her face than moved my hand down to rub her bump. 5 minutes past and i hear sylvie "mm". i smile at her and say "good morning".sylvie replied saying "good morning what time is it". i look over at the clock and say "7:15". she says "amelia still sleeping".i say yup". she says "that's good". than gives me a kiss. i  break the kiss long enough to say "yup". we continue making out for a few minutes until we here amelia. sylvie says "birthday girl is up". i say "come on lets go get her".

we get out of bed and go to amelia room. we open the door. sylvie and i both greet amelia with big smiles and happy birthdays. we have everyone coming over for amelia birthday party that sylvie insisted being minnie mouse themed. we go to to the kitchen and i make coffee and ask sylvie what she wants for breakfast "choclate chip pancakes?". she answers. i say "okay". and give her a soft kiss on the forehead.  and start breakfast.

sylvie pov:
today is amelia birthday. today will be a hard day scott and julie should be here for this. we go and get amelia from her room. matt makes breakfast. why he does this i brush my teeth and change amelia. we sit in the kitchen eating. we finish breakfast. i give amelia a bottle and let her play. i go and shower. i put on a pink dress. i get amelia dressed into a minnie shirt that says first birthday and black legging. matt and i start decorating. everyone will be here at 1 pm. i get a facetime call from my mom.

i answer the phone. "hey mom". she says "hey honey how is the birthday girl".  i show amelia and say "she is good and slept good last night". she tells amelia happy birthday. we talk for a few minutes she than says "hey there is something i need to tell you i didn't wanna tell you today but you should know". i say woried "what is it mom". she says "it's harrison he was arrested". i sigh and say "for domestic?". she says "yeah honey". i say "do you know if the girl is okay?". she says "yeah". i say "okay well i gotta go finish setting up". she says "okay love you". i say "love you too bye".

nobody knows besides my parents but the real reason i came to chicago was to get away from him. i try to wipe the memorys of him hitting and pushing me out of my mind. i go and help matt set up. matt takes amelia and goes to pick up her cake.

matts pov:
we finish setting up. i can tell something has been bothering sylvie since she got of the phone with her mom. i haven't bugged her about thinking she will tell me if she wants to. i take amelia and go to the store to pick up her smash cake. i put on the baby carrier figuring it's easier. i put her in. and go into the store grabbing a small cart so i can get a few other things for dinner. amelia started to get fussy so i hurry and get the things for dinner and head to the bakery section for the cake.  i grab the cake and hurry to check out. i hear someone call my name.

i turn around.i see a man couldn't be older than 19 i say "hey'. he says "it's griffin". i say "oh my god how are you". and give him the best hug i can. he says "i'm great".  i say "and ben?". he says "he's doing okay". i say "thats great". he says "who's this". i say "this is amelia". he says "you finally had a kid". i say "well it's complicated she is my wife sylvie she is a medic at 51 sister but we had to take her in and sylvie is pregnant". he says "thats great congrats". i say  "thank you well i should get going it's actually this missies birthday here is my number if you wanna come by just let me know or come by 51 most of us are still there". he says "okay matt thanks". we say goodbye i put the food in the car and strap amelia into her car seat. i drive home in shock that i just ran into griffin after all this time. i get home. and bring the stuff in.  i say to sylvie "i ran into griffin at the store". she says "darden?". i say "yeah". she says "oh wow". i say "yeah". people start showing up. we all hang out. it was time for amelia to smash the cake. sylvie put her into her high chair. and put the small pink cake in front of her. stella recording witch i am geussing sylvie put her up to. sylvie kinda shows what to do. after 30 minutes cake all over the place and one very messy amelia i clean up and sylvie cleans up amelia before we do presents.

sylvie pov:
matt comes back with everything. everyone starts showing up everyone at 51 and natalie,owen and will maggie. kim and her daughter. jay,hailey,kevin,adam. we do cake me telling stella to record. after 30 minutes amelia is a mess and so is her high chair. i clean up amelia and matt cleans up the kitchen. we do presents, everyone goes home around 4 stella and kelly staying behind. we clean up matt than makes dinner. telling kelly he ran into griffin. we finish dinner. and they leave. we clean up from dinner. i give amelia a bath getting ready for bed. its 7 pm so i rock and read her a story and put her down. i change into pjs. matt and i sit on the couch cuddling.

he say "are you okay you've been acting off". i say "uhmm there is something i should tell you". he says okay with worry in his voice. i say "the real reason i come to chicago was because i was running away from a abusive relationship".i start tearing up, he says "harrison?". i nod he says "sylvie i am so sorry". i say "i honestly don't think about anymore but when i was on the phone my mom told me he got arrested". he says "does anyone know"? i say "no just my parents". he says "i m so sorry baby". i say "yeah". he hugs me tightly. we cuddle for a bit than head to bed.

matts pov:.
we cuddle on the couch i ask sylvie if she was okay. i was not expecting what she told me. my heart broke pictures in my head of scared young sylvie.  i hug her tightly. i get dressed in sweats. sylvie cuddles up to me and falls asleep. i get a text from griffin "hey matt it's me are you working tomorrow i was going to come by 51?". i say "yeah i'll be there tomorrow". he says "okay". i put my phone down and drift off to sleep.
