Chapter 19

Matts pov:
I wake up at 6 am to the sun shining through the bedroom window. I Check the baby monitor to see if Amelia is still asleep. She is still asleep so I quietly get up and and head to the bathroom for a quick shower. I get dressed into my cfd uniform and brush my teeth. I walk into the living room and find Sylvie making breakfast. I go and stand behind her wrapping my arms around her waist.

I say "good morning". She smiles and says "morning". I give her a kiss on the cheek. She says "you hungry?". I smile and say "starving". I get a cup of coffee. Sylvie makes our plates. And we sit down to eat breakfast. About half way through eating Amelia starts crying. Sylvie starts to get up but I tell her I got it so she can eat.

I go and find Amelia sitting up crying. I go and pick her up. I say "hey sweet girl". And try to calm down. She stops crying after a minute. I change her diaper and get her dressed. we finish breakfast i give sylvie and millie a kiss goodbye and head to the firehouse.

kellys pov:
shift started 5 minutes ago and casey is not here yet. he is never late. in fact he always earlier. i try texting him but no responce.before i can try texting sylvie the bells go off "squad 3 ambo 61 truck 81 batllion 25 vehicle accident. we get into the rigs and are at the scene 3 minutes later. i spot the cars a black car and take a second look at the truck it's matts. chief starts giving orders but before he can finish i'm at matts truck. the door is jammed. cruz gets the jaws and we get the door open. he is out cold with blood on his forehead. i check his pulse it's weak but there. the medics take care of him. chief lets me ride to the hospital with him.

we get to the hospital ad dr.choi takes him. 10 minutes go by. and i call sylvie.

sylvie pov:
i am doing my makeup millie is being complicated. as i stop her from tipping the laundry basket my phone rings. i pick millie up and answer it. it's kelly.

"hey severide what's up". he responds in a low voice almost inaudible. "hey brett". i get worried "is everything alright is matt alright is stella okay" i say he responds "umm stella is fine. but um matt didn't show up for shift and we go- got a call for a car accident it it's casey sylvie". tears start forming in my eyes i say in a shaky voice "is he okay?". he says "he was out cold and had a weak pulse in the ambo to med". i say ''i'm on my way". he says "okay".

i rush and get my shoes on. i get amelia in her carseat and we leave. i get to med 10 minutes later. i ask the nurse at the front desk "i'm here for matthew casey" in a shaky voice. she ask are you family i say "yes i'm his wife". she checks her computer. and says "he is being treated by dr.choi you are welcome to wait in the waiting room. i walk off and head to the waiting room. i find severide sitting with his head in his hands. i say "severide?". he says "sylvie". and gets up. we hug quickley tears now streaming down my face. i say "how bad was it". he says "i don't know what is wrong with matt but he got the worst of it. i bring my hand up to my mouth. he reches his hands out. i give amelia to him. i sit down with one hand on my bump other on my mouth still.
i sit there for a a little bit till 51 comesin the waiting room. stella gives me a hug. she ask "how is he?". i say "doctor hasn't been out. i sit back down with her. amelia now in cruz hands.

a few minutes go by and dr,choi comes out. he says "sylvie?" i stand up he says "the important thing is he is alive but he is still out and don't know when or if he will wake up and has some broken ribs and a dislocated shoulder". i start crying i ask 'can i see him?". he says "yeah". i look at 51 stella says "go we have amelia". i nod and go with choi. i get to matts room. he has a tube down his throat looking life less. i say "um is the reason he isin a coma because of his past injury?". he says "yeah our head our neuro will come talk to you. i say "okay".

i walk over to matt. i give his forehead a kiss and sit down and hold his hand, choi leaves. i put my head on the bed and start sobbing. i say to myself how can this be happening. i sit like that for 30 minutes until severide walks in. i wipe my face. he walks over puts a hand on my shoulder and looks at matt. he ays "he will wake up he is matt and tuff as nails". i let out a choked chuckle and say "yeah". a older looking doctor walks in. he introduces himself as dr.abrams. he tells us what matts test results. he says he still has brain function but not sure when or if he will wake up due to brain sewling and that he might need brain surgrey. i nod not really understanding much. kellys leavs when stella comes in. i hug her and just cry, she rubs my back. she says "chief is letting me take off the rest of shift to take care of amelia. i smile and say "thank you". she says "of course". she sits with me for a bit. everyone leaves a bit later leaving amelia with stella. she leaves taking my car to take amelia home.

i spend the day sitting by matts bedside praying for him wake up. stella stopped by with dinner. trying to convince me to go home and rest but i say no. her and kelly sand stying in the guest room taking care of amelia. i end up falling asleep with my head resting by matt.
