Chapter 6

Tiana couldn't believe what Steve had told her. He wanted to quit being an Avenger, which didn't seem fair at all for him. She thought about how much he loved being able to help people and make a small difference in their lives. She couldn't let him wait for what he loved doing, not just for her. She knew he loved her so much and would do pretty much anything. This one thing was just a little too much. She didn't want to be the one standing in the way of his dream. She was so mad at him, she didn't want to talk to him. She hoped that he would change his mind about it. She could tell he that thought about this plan for a while now, which makes it even worse. She didn't understand how he could make such a decision so easily. If he had talked about it with her first, maybe things would have been different.

He had also said that they could start a new life together, which, to be honest, didn't sound too bad to her. A fresh start from everything, from all the craziness that has happened. A chance to live freely again, without worrying when someone is going to attack her. She couldn't blame Steve for wanting a better life for them but it just seemed so sudden that she needed time to process what he said. She then realised what a jerk she had been, just disregarding his decision and not even listening to what he had to say. She then got up, wanting to apologise for the angry outburst.

As she was about to open the door, she heard a soft knock. She opened the door, to reveal a nervous Steve, pain and regret etched on his face. Tiana's resolve crumbled, as she then pulled him in for a hug. She hated seeing him so broken and defeated, there was nothing worse than that. All the anger had quickly disappeared, the only thing that mattered was him. She needed to comfort him. She didn't want to seem so upset. She was so mad at herself for making him feel this way. He was the sweetest person she knew and she acted like a bit**. She was not happy with herself. "I'm so sorry, Tiana. I didn't mean to upset you either. All I want to do is keep you safe. Quitting being an Avenger, was the best way for me to do that. You always come first.' He sobbed.

She held him close to her, rubbing his head gently. "I'm so sorry, Steve. I didn't mean to hurt you. I was just surprised that's all. If you don't want to be an Avenger anymore and you want to start a new life together then let's do it. For us." Tiana acknowledged, whispering in his ear. He looked up at her, confused at her decision. "Really? We can talk about it more. We don't have to do it just yet." He said as he cupped her face. "It's okay, Steve. I did end up thinking about it and there are a lot of advantages. I only want to do it if you're 100% sure you want to give up being an Avenger. " She said, kissing the top of his forehead. "I'm sure, Tiana. I only need you. I'll be okay for the rest of my life if I just have you." He said, as he bent down and kissed her gently on the lips.

She kissed him back passionately, the kiss becoming more intense as they continued to kiss each other. Steve then whispered something seductively in her ear, she complied, as she jumped on him, wrapping her legs around his waist. He then moved walked towards the bed, gently laying her down. As he hovered over her, he looked deeply into her eyes, brushing off the strand of hair covering her face. He smiled at her. "I love you so much, Tiana." He said, his twinkling brightly. "I love you too, Steve." She smiled, as he cupped her face before capturing her lips with his...

They lay in each other's arms, blissfully enjoying the moment. "What will the others say?' Tiana asked, turning to look at Steve. "I'm actually a little worried about them. They might not like that I'm retiring. I know Bucky and Tony would be the most upset. They are my closest friends. " He sighed, snuggling closer to Tiana. "Don't worry, they'll be okay eventually. It's not like they can't visit us." She reassured him. "Yeah. That's true. Everything will be alright." He smiled, kissing her cheek.

A few hours later they met up with the Avengers at the compound. They did inform the team they had big news to tell them. Clint had chimed in and thought they were getting married. Tiana and Steve laughed it off. They were not ready for that. They were still in the early stages of their relationship.
