Chapter 14

Rheya knew that kidnapping Steve would lure Tiana to her. He was the one person she cared about the most and would do anything to save him. She couldn't understand why everyone was so obsessed with Tiana. What made her so special? Fuelled with indignation, she hated Tiana for having everything she could have possibly wanted while she was left with nothing. She never knew what it meant to be unconditionally loved by someone or people. She was all alone her whole life.

She was 18 when she left the orphanage, she then made it her mission to find out as much as possible about the people who had abandoned her as a baby. She wanted to understand why they did it. Why did they have to abandon her? Was she not worthy of being their child? So many thoughts had tormented her. Her whole world came crashing down when she found out that the reason she was abandoned was that her mother had an affair with a very powerful man. She didn't want to keep Rheya because she was ashamed of herself for having an affair and keeping her would just be a reminder of the pain she brought upon her husband and herself. Rheya realised she was a dirty secret that had to be discarded, she had never felt so worthless in her life. Discovering the truth had brought her more pain than she had expected. She had a glimmer of hope that they didn't abandon her on purpose and it was just an accident. Shen found out that the man who her mother had an affair with was Alexander Pierce, one of the Directors of SHIELD. She had hoped she could meet him but her dreams disintegrated when she found out that he was dead. Nick Fury killed him. She was going to make everyone suffer. She wanted them to feel the pain and heartache she had to endure her whole life.

Tiana didn't want to believe that he was taken. It was just a ridiculous thing to have happened to him. She knew he would have easily taken them out. The only way for them to take him out was to subdue him. That was the only way, which meant he had no chance of defending himself.

Tiana was huddled into a ball, her body trembling from the ferocious force of her wailing. She couldn't help but blame herself for what happened, as her mind was overflowing with guilt and despair. She was scared for him, she didn't know what kind of state he was in, which made her cry even more. She wasn't able to protect him. She felt like she had betrayed him for not looking for him sooner. She knew that she can do something. She will find him and rescue him. She will get her boyfriend back. First, she needed to tell the Avengers what had happened.

"When did you see him last?" Nat asked as they were communicating over a video call. "I just went to bed. I dozed off quickly because I was exhausted. I remember him telling me he would be back soon. He told me that he needed to get something from the car." Tiana said, shakily as she clutched the engagement ring to her chest. "You didn't hear him come back?" Nat continued questioning. "No. I would have heard him because I'm a very light sleeper." Tiana informed. "That means they Hydra followed you guys there and was waiting for the opportunity to strike." Bucky deduced. "It must be Rheya. I can tell that she planned this." Tiana groaned irritably. "She must have been planning this for months," Thor added. "That's why she has been under the radar. She made sure she stayed hidden to implement her plan." Nat implied. Tiana's head was spinning, still processing the fact that her boyfriend was taken and that she was being watched, for who knows how long. "I know this must be a lot for you to take in. Is there anything I can help with? "Nat asked, noticing her uneasiness. "I just don't know what to do. I feel so useless not being able to help. I want to go and get him back." Tiana voiced painfully. "You're doing as much as you can for now. Don't beat yourself up for thinking you're not helping. You are helping him in more ways than you know. You have faith. That's the most important thing. Steve knows how much you care for him." Nat reassured her. "I'm still stuck in Canada. How can I help him when I'm stuck in another country." Tiana cried out. "Don't worry about that we will book a flight for you. I'll send you all the details in an hour. Just hang tight. Don't stress. It's not going to help. Trust me." Nat advised before cutting the call.
