Chapter 15

The rest of the Avengers did not have the same viewpoints as Steve and Tiana. They wanted Rheya to be locked up for a long time, not just a few months. "You two don't get to decide what happens to this criminal. She has put everyone's lives in danger. Including your own. You want to act as if nothing happened?" Nick shouted, furiously. "Fury, it's not that we don't want her to go unpunished. We do know the severity of her crimes. She even put Tiana's parents' lives in danger. The thing is we forgive her. We want all of the pain and suffering to end. We would end up becoming bitter and resentful if we didn't. We all just want to move on with our lives. Rheya just wants a family, we should at least give her that. Everyone does deserve a second chance." Steve argued. "Mr Rogers, I understand your concerns. You're saying that if a bad guy does something wrong we must forgive them for their crimes and let them walk away. Is that what you're implying?" Fury countered. "That's not what I'm saying at all. Just in this circumstance, things are a little weird. Considering that Tiana and Rheya are half-siblings. She should be punished but not as excruciatingly long as 10 years. That's all I'm saying." Steve, continued. Fury sighed, knowing there was nothing he could say that would change Steve's mind.

"Ms Alvarez, what do you have to say about all of this? " Fury asked, turning his attention to Tiana. "I just don't want Rheya to suffer any more than she already has, which is why I'm pushing for a more lenient punishment. To be honest, I don't think I should have a say in all this because my opinions would be biased. I will respect any decision that you will decide, sir." Tiana spoke, confidently.

Fury nodded in agreement while Steve looked at her in shock. "Tiana, are you sure that is what you want? "Steve asked, with concern. "It is. I think this is the right way to handle everything. Thank you so much for your help. I appreciate you looking out for Rheya as well even though she tortured and put you through hell." She said, taking his hand in hers and giving it a gentle squeeze. "I'm only doing it for you. You are important to me. I haven't forgiven her completely for what she did to you. I'll always be by your side." Steve smiled, sweetly. Tiana could feel her heartbeat faster, his words always had a way of moving her. She couldn't be any more in love with someone the way she was in love with Steve. She quickly reached up towards him and placed a quick peck on his cheek. He looked at her with surprise, taken aback by the sudden display of affection. His shock slowly formed into a smile.

Fury cleared his throat. "I've decided on Rheya's punishment." He announced. Tiana took a deep breath, unsure of what was about to happen next. "Rheya will be sentenced to 2 years of imprisonment." Fury concluded. Tiana breathed a sigh of relief, that wasn't as bad as she expected. "Thank you, sir. I appreciate it." Tiana said gratefully. "It wasn't just for you. I decided what was best for everyone." Fury admitted, coolly. Tiana shielded herself behind Steve, feeling embarrassed. She wasn't expecting him to say that. "Thank you, Fury. We appreciate it anyway." Steve spoke, defending Tiana. "I think we should be heading back home," Steve said, speaking to everyone. "Home? Didn't you sell your apartment before you left for Canada?" Bucky asked, confused. "That's true, we did. Although, I did find a much better apartment. Just before we arrived here, found an available apartment. We were lucky we could move in immediately. It had been on the market for a while. It's a lot more spacious. It has 3 bedrooms, for anyone who wants to stay over and – "You know Nat and I will be the first ones there." Bucky called out. "There is no doubt about that." Tiana laughed. "As I was saying." Steve continued. "It's a very modern apartment s it would take me a while to get used to it. I mean you just call that person Alexa to do everything for you. It's incredible!" Steve said, eyes sparkling with excitement. Tiana smiled lovingly at her boyfriend. She loved how fascinated he still became when it came to technology. It was adorable. "Well, hope you two enjoy your new apartment back home. Please don't go anywhere far away again." Nat begged. "We promise, we won't be going anywhere soon. We missed home so much." Tiana reassured her.
