Frida was still on top of Marieke when she noticed Agnetha was slowly shuffling down the stairs.
"Shit", she said just a bit too loudly knocking over one of the wine glasses while she jumped up. By that time Marieke realized what was happening and she jolted up too. Now it was her saying "shit" just a bit too loudly. Marieke looked from Frida to the stairs, to the wine puddle on the floor and back.
"She can't know. She can't.", Marieke panicked.
"Don't worry, I agree. And I don't think she saw anything. I hope she didn't see anything.", Frida whispered back, while fixing her hair.
"I'll go take care of her.", Marieke stood up still looking at Frida. Frida nodded and motioned her to go:
"I'll take care of the wine." Agnetha did see them whispering as she reached the bottom of the stairs, but she couldn't hear them. She noticed they both seemed fazed and she saw the spilled wine, but her brain was so fogged up from being sick she couldn't really question it.
Marieke wiped her hand across her mouth as she walked towards Agnetha, in the hope of removing any possible lipstick evidence. Agnetha thought that was a bit of an unusual gesture for Marieke.
"Hey, you're up. Is everything alright?"
"Yes, I just couldn't lay in bed anymore. What are you two up to?" Mariekes heart pounded, this time out of fear of getting caught.
"Uhm, we were just going to watch a movie. I think... I think Sabrina is on."
"Breakfast at Tiffany's", Frida jumped in, while was clumsily trying to mop up the wine.
"Do you wanna join us?", she added.
"Sure, sounds more fun than sleeping again.", Agnetha chuckled coughing a bit.
"Why don't we get you settled on the couch then?" Marieke went to grab a blanket from the armchair next to the couch.
"Frida and I can take the armchairs if you want to lie down."
"No, you don't have to. I think I'd like to sit for a change." She walked over to the couch. As she sat down Marieke handed her the blanket.
"Thank you." Frida stood on the other side of Agnetha and took a big swig from the remaining, Marieke's wine glass before handing it to her:
"Oh, I'm sorry, I think this was yours."
"No worries, if you promise not to spill anymore, I can get us some refills.", she grinned at Frida and regretted being so obviously cheeky immediately.
"Well, let's say I'll do my best and Agnetha is here to keep me in line, I think we'll be alright.", she sat down next to Agnetha on the couch.
"What happened with the wine glass anyways?", Agnetha asked as Marieke left for the kitchen. She couldn't hear Frida's reply anymore having closed the kitchen door behind her. She let out a deep breath.
What on earth was going on? She and Frida had just been kissing. Not like a one off motherly kiss, no they kissed romantically, they kissed passionately and it felt right. And it was not only that, Frida and Agnetha used to do that as well. That and who knows what else. Marieke was overwhelmed, she hardly knew Frida but she couldn't stop thinking about kissing her again. At the same time she also couldn't stop thinking about the embarassment she felt when they almost got caught by Agnetha. Her first worry was that she might lose her job. She also didn't want to hurt Agnetha's feelings. The tension between Agnetha and Frida she had been picking up made sense all of a sudden. Did that mean there was still more than friendship between them? Eventhough Frida said there wasn't? And what did it all mean for herself? She liked her job, she liked the kids and she liked Agnetha and Björn. She didn't want anything to change, but she felt like it already had. She had crossed a line she couldn't back track from. Kissing Frida had felt so good, she wanted to kiss her again and again, but it also worried her. What would happen when she went back into the living room? What would happen after the movie was over? What would happen tomorrow or in a week? Marieke couldn't hide out in the kitchen forever. If she didn't want Agnetha to suspect anything she had to go back out and pretend nothing had happened. So she did.
