《Jun-ho's POV》

As I exited the room, I sensed someone behind me. I turned-a square-masked guard was approaching, his steps quickening until he matched my pace.

"29," he said, sharp and cold. "Care to explain why you kissed Y/N behind the bunk bed?"

     "I didn't," I replied with a hint of irritation.

"Don't play dumb with me." He stepped closer, his head turning toward mine. "You're lucky no players saw. Otherwise, you'd be dead by now."

I stopped walking. "Fine. So what if I did?" My tone sharpened. "You got a problem?"

He mirrored my movement, then suddenly shoved me hard against the wall. I hit the ground with a grunt, his boots crunching as he stood over me.

"You better watch your mouth," he said, grabbing my shoulder with a firm, bruising grip. "If I catch you kissing her again, I'll shoot you myself."

He straightened himself and walked off.

"Asshole," I muttered under my breath, getting back on my feet and following behind.

Y/N's POV》

"Y/N, stick with us tonight," Deok-su said, placing a rough hand against my cheek.

I nodded silently, stepping closer. His arm wrapped around my shoulders, leading me to a bed-positioned between his and Mi-nyeo's.

Even though I trusted Sae-byeok, Gi-hun, Ali, the old man...hell, even Sang-woo, I needed to stay near the strong ones. The dangerous ones.

I sat down, watching the room. Gi-hun and the others were building a small barricade. Deok-su noticed too and moved toward them. I followed.

     "Yo, Gi-hun," he called out.

Gi-hun looked up, metal bars between us. "What?"

Deok-su smirked. "Nice work you've done here. But do you really think that's gonna stop me if I decide to break through?"

Gi-hun didn't flinch. "Do you really trust your group?" he asked, gesturing to the people behind us. "If I were them...you'd be the first I'd take out. A big guy like you? You're a threat."

Deok-su's smirk faltered, his confidence dimming for just a second.

Gi-hun looked at me and offered a soft smile. "Stay safe, Y/N."

     "I will," I replied. "Don't die either."

He chuckled and shut the barricade with a metal plate.

I turned to Deok-su. "Idiot!" I smacked him lightly. "Quit trying to intimidate people."

He followed after me. "I was just trying to rile them up."

I rolled my eyes and sat down again. Slowly, my body relaxed. The noise faded. My eyelids dropped.

《Next Day》

     "Y/N."

     I stirred, groaning.

"For fuck's sake, what now?" I grumbled, eyes half-lidded.

"It's time. Next game," Deok-su said. He picked me up bridal-style.

My eyes flew open. The room was already emptying-players being ushered out. He set me down so I could walk on my own.

We followed the others into a blinding white room with crisscrossing staircases.

"The next game will begin shortly. Please form teams of 10. You have 10 minutes."

People darted across the room, grabbing anyone they could. I stayed close to Gi-hun, Sae-byeok, Ali, the old man, and Sang-woo.

     Sang-woo glanced sideways at me.

     "What?"

"Nothing..." he mumbled. Then added, "Everyone, bring back another male. It's Tug of War-I saw it on the wall earlier."

We nodded and split up. I went straight to Deok-su.

     "You in?" I asked.

He agreed instantly. His group didn't argue-probably assumed he joined because of me. They weren't wrong.

Back with the others, Sang-woo noticed our new team member.

"Sae-byeok," he said sharply, "I told you-only guys."

He was pointing at another girl, Player 240. She stood slowly.

"If this is a problem, I'll leave," she said quietly.

"No," Gi-hun cut in. "Stay. You're welcome here." He shot a glare at Sang-woo.

Sang-woo scoffed. "At least Y/N understood the assignment."

"Time's up! Proceed through the doors to begin the game."

We stepped through into a dizzying metal platform suspended high above the ground.

My stomach dropped. Of all things-it had to be heights.

Sang-woo pulled me in front of him, wrapping his arms around me.

     A square-masked guard approached.
"What are you two doing?" he asked, suspicious.

"She's afraid of heights," Sang-woo replied bluntly.

The guard took another step forward and after a long pause, I clapped my hands between their faces.

     "Alright, calm down."

They both blinked at me, stunned. The guard muttered something under his breath and walked away.

I leaned back into Sang-woo's arms again, ignoring the looks.

But, he didn't push me away.
