It was around 1:00 a.m. Time was ticking, and who knew what could happen.

Everyone else was asleep, so I quietly got up from my bed, gripping a knife in my right hand, and made my way over to Sae-byeok.

I stood over her for a moment, just watching. My eyes trailed down to her hip. The bandage around her waist was soaked in blood. I crouched down to eye level, studying her face.

     She looks so peaceful...

Raising my knife, I brought it down fast—too fast. A sting shot up my arm.

     “Shit.”

Blood dripped from my own hand. I had meant to cut a strip from my shirt to re-bandage Sae-byeok…but instead, I sliced myself.

I sighed, ignoring the pain, and kept cutting until I had enough fabric. Then I began undoing the soaked bandage around her waist.

Suddenly, her hand grabbed mine. I froze and looked up.

     Her half-lidded eyes met mine.

Then, without a word, she gently released me and closed her eyes again, silently giving permission to continue.

     So I did.

Once I finished, I kissed her forehead and quietly walked away. It was now 1:45 a.m.

I need to make a move. But who?

On my right was Deok-su. On my left, Mi-nyeo. Too messy.

No. Better to pick someone I didn’t care about.

I turned and walked over to Sang-woo. I knew he was awake—his eyelids were twitching, like he was trying too hard to fake sleep.

     Perfect.

Raising my knife, I jumped on him. He gasped, about to yell, but I clamped my left hand over his mouth and pressed the blade to his throat.

His eyes went wide with fear.

“Make any move,” I whispered dangerously, “and I’ll slit your throat.”

It was just a prank, but damn—it felt good.

He nodded quickly. I held his gaze for a few seconds longer, then raised my finger to my lips. Shh.

He nodded again, still in shock, not afraid—just stunned.

I looked over and spotted the priest. The same guy who pushed me down the stairs.

     Wait…I thought he died?

Must’ve confused him with someone else. Either way, he was snoring loudly. Disgusting.

I smirked and looked back at Sang-woo, giving him a wink. Then I stood and walked over to the priest.

     I stared down at him.

Hmm…how should I kill you, huh?

He lay on his back, hands folded neatly on his chest. Like a corpse already.

I slowly ran the knife along his face. He twitched slightly, still asleep. Then I dragged it down to his neck.

     Bingo.

Raising my arm high, the blade glinting in the dim light, my shadow fell over his face.

     Slash.

The knife plunged into his throat.

He shrieked, choking on his own scream. Blood spurted upward, splashing across my face. Disgusting.

I yanked the knife out. The blood came faster now, squirting everywhere.

Gasps. Screams. The entire room jolted awake.

     But I didn’t stop.

I stabbed him again. And again. Laughing uncontrollably. The high of it—it was intoxicating.

By the time I was done, he was still. Silent.

I stood up, face soaked in blood, and walked back to my bed. I grabbed my spare shirt—the one I wore during the games—and wiped myself clean.

Some people started crying. Two banged on the door, screaming for help.

But most just stared. Silent. Shocked.

     The guards walked in—unbothered—carrying coffee…and a coffin.

They placed the priest inside and zipped it shut.

Then, suddenly, a girl from the victim’s group lunged at me, rage in her eyes.

“You fucking crazy bitch!” she screamed, her hands tightening around my throat. “You don’t belong in this world!”

Ali and one of the guards pulled her off me.

     I sat up, coughing—and smirking.

The Next Morning》

The music blared, waking us all.

I opened my eyes and immediately caught the girl from last night glaring at me. I gave her a smug smile.

     She scoffed and looked away.

     Bitch.

I got out of bed and began stretching. I arched my back into a deep bend.

I heard footsteps behind me. Turning, I saw Ali.

“Hi! Can I stretch with you?” he asked politely.

“Of course you can!” I chirped.

We started doing different poses together. I slid into the splits effortlessly.

     Ali tried to follow.

     Bad idea.

“OHhh! MY BALLS!” he yelped, clutching himself and collapsing to the floor in agony.

I burst out laughing, tears in my eyes.

“Oh god! Why would you try to do a split?!” I wheezed.

“I thought it would be easy!” he whimpered, still rolling.

“You idiot,” I said, laughing harder. “You have to be flexible!”

     Others chuckled too.

     Then the intercom buzzed.

“Please follow the staff to your last game.”

I blinked. The guards were already in the room.

We lined up and followed them up the stairs. Eventually, we were led outside.

Rain poured from the sky, soaking us instantly. I stepped further into the open, looking around. Then my eyes dropped to the painted pattern on the ground.

     My heart skipped.

     Oh no.

     Squid Game.
