I smirked, brushing my hair back with one hand as Sang-woo stumbled to his feet, wiping blood from his mouth and spitting it near my shoes.

"Nice to see you too, Y/N."

I crossed my arms. "Last I checked, I was the one in debt. So why the hell are you here?"

He scoffed, hands shoved into his pockets like he wasn't just eating dirt two seconds ago.

"You're not the only one who owes money. Why do you think I came after you in the first place? You owe me more than most." He took a step closer. "Not gonna lie, though...watching you cry while I pulled your hair-kinda hot."

Disgusting.

"So what, you've got a hair-pulling kink? I'll remember that when I snap your neck."

I moved to lunge at him again, but a masked guard with a circle symbol yanked me back just in time. Damn it.

"LET GO OF ME!" I screamed, thrashing in his grip as he dragged me away. "I SWEAR I'LL END HIM!"

Crossing my arms in defeat, I huffed as I walked beside the silent guard. He kept glancing at me. Can't say I blamed him-half the people behind us had just watched others die. It was dead silent.

《Main Room》

Back in the main room, I sat on my assigned bunk. Alone. No one approached me, and I didn't bother approaching anyone either.

Across the room, 101 was staring. I shot him a look of pure disgust and made a mock gagging face. His smile dropped. Good.

Unfortunately, that didn't stop him from walking over and sitting on my bed without saying a word.

Ten long minutes passed in silence before I finally asked, "What do you want?"

He looked up, and for once, his expression wasn't sleazy. It was...hesitant?

"I just...I wanted to say I'm sorry. About earlier." He rubbed the back of his neck. "I was pissed off, and yeah-I said some shit. I know I crossed a line. I don't expect you to forgive me, but...I'd like to start over. Maybe be friends?"

That actually threw me off.

I was quiet for a moment. Then, surprising even myself, I leaned in and gave him a quick hug.

He froze like I'd shocked him.

"I'm still pissed," I said, pulling back, "but hey-people learn. And I guess you did."

He gave me a small smile. We sat in a more comfortable silence this time.

《Ten Minutes Later》

The main doors creaked open. A group of masked guards stepped in-triangles flanking one square. That one must be the boss.

The square-masked man walked forward.

"Congratulations on completing the first game. 257 players have been eliminated. That brings the prize pool to 25.7 billion won."

A guy near the front shouted, "You call this a game!? You're insane!"

Another joined in, "This is murder!"

Tension spiked-until a triangle guard raised his gun toward the ceiling and fired.

Everyone went dead silent.

"You don't understand," the square calmly said. "We're not here to hurt you. You're here because you chose to be."

That's when I laughed.

Loud and unfiltered.

All eyes turned to me like I'd just lost it. Maybe I had.

I walked to the front and faced the crowd, standing beside the square-masked man.

"Guys...we're all here because we're desperate. Drowning in debt. You think begging for freedom is gonna fix your life out there?" I took a breath. "I've got a little brother. I'll risk everything for him. And I know I'm not the only one with something to fight for."

Silence.

Then the square guard whispered, "Thank you."

I gave him a small nod and walked back toward the others.

Someone in the crowd spoke up, "She's right. Out there, we're screwed anyway. Here at least we've got a shot."

After that, no one argued.

The guards came in with food trays and water bottles.

"Please line up in groups of three."

We lined up. I ended up behind 101-he turned to me with a grin.

"Almost forgot-name's Deok-su."

"Y/N." I replied.

"Yeah. I know." He winked, and I slapped his arm, smirking.

I felt a tap behind me.

Turning, I saw Ali's smiling face. "Oh hey, Ali!"

"Miss Y/N, may I ask...why aren't you and Sang-woo on good terms?"

My face dropped. I looked past Ali-Sang-woo was standing right behind him.

"Tch. That idiot's behind you?" I whispered.

Ali nodded. "He mentioned you earlier...not in a bad way, surprisingly."

I glanced at Sang-woo, our eyes locking. He was expressionless-but his eyes told a different story. Sad. Angry. And...something else. Something I couldn't place.

I turned back to Ali.

"Well, at least he's not trash-talking me. That's progress. Still, I could write a whole book on reasons to hate that guy."

Ali chuckled. "You keep thinking like that, you might just manifest it."

I actually laughed a little. He was easy to talk to.

When I got to the front of the line, the staff handed me a pink tin and a juice pouch instead of water.

...What?

"Thanks," I said slowly, accepting it.

As I walked off, I giggled under my breath.

Is this favoritism? I'll take it.

I made my way over to Gi-hun and plopped down beside him.

"Y/N! Just in time-we were assigning roles for our group." He pulled me closer. A few people around us scoffed.

"You can be the princess-the one everyone's trying to protect!"

I burst out laughing.

People looked at me-some smiling, some with that warm, weird "you're kinda family now" look.

But of course, peace never lasted long here.

Out of nowhere, someone tackled me from behind-playful giggling turning into wild ranting.
