Kentrell Gaulden"Man It was nothing serious. I swea." I laughed on the phone with Grandma.
"You better not have messed anything up."
"I haven't. We good here. She just trippin cause of a music video, and cause I was doing my
job. Other then that, me and her straight.""I'm glad you too are happy. No wedding plans yet?"
"Nah. We not in a rush. Her birthday coming up though."
"I know. But she always hated her birthdays growing up."
"I know. But I'm still gon go all out. I just don't know what to do." I said putting the key to the door. I walked in the house and King came running to me, licking my shoes. "I was finna fly you out and everything."
"Oh boy. I'll see what I could do."
"What you mean? It's been a minute since we seen you. Miss you around here." I say.
"I know. I've been missing you guys two. I'll come around for Christmas. I can't miss my grand baby first Christmas. How is she?"
"She eat like crazy." We both erupt in laugher. "I'm talking about 4 bottles straight."
I tossed the regular bills and monthly catalogs we got on our kitchen island, but one big yellow envelope took my attention. I knew it had to be important just cause it was big ass fuck.
"Say' I'm gon call you back." I say quickly cutting the phone.
I dragged the end of my key on the envelope slit, opening the letter. It from the attorney office. I must've gotten sued or sum.
Jania Meshell V The state of Georgia
My eyes widened reading them words, the fuck is this?
We, the Jury find the Defendant GUILTY as charged in Indictment No. 22853
I ain't even have to read the rest of the documents before knowing exactly what it was. I sat down on the table, and felt my palms getting sweaty.
"Jalanee!" I yell loud enough for her to hear upstairs.
It was a long list of charges, and next to them they all read guilty. This bitch was gon be in jail for a hot minute.
"What's wrong? You scared me." Jalanee giggles, coming out to the living room. Her smile drops, seeing my face and she sits next to me.
"Read this." I states, handing her the letter. I don't know how she would feel about this, I still felt bad seeing her everyday. I just hope this meant something good to her. I watched her eyes skim the paper and her eyebrows furrowed.
"You good?"
She nodded and her eyes got glossy.
"What two life sentences mean? Don't she only got one life?" She says, rereading the paper. "Yeah..I'm confused about that one." Jalanee added.
"It means she going away for good and youn gotta worry about her or nobody bothering you again."
"Really?" Her voice cracks.
"Yeah"
I still had to look out for bitches, but for the most part she's good. Yaya, done moved on with another nigga. Star ain't crazy, and Kay and I don't even speak. She safe.
I was caught off guard when she pulled me into a tight hug. I hugged her back and kissed her forehead.
"You good?" I asked again. She pulled back with a blank face. Couldn't tell if she was happy or not.
"Yeah..." She said taking a seat on the couch. "This is good news."
"I'm so glad this is all over with baby." She adds.
"Me too."
"So what now?"
"We just gon live our life, with our family." I shrug. Before she could respond, the wails of Amira was heard coming from one of the rooms in the back.
"Can you get her? I need to call my dad and brother and tell them the news." She says. I nodded and I followed the sound of the crying.
I picked Amira up in her crib, and started to rock her. I knew she wasn't hungry, cause she always poked her lip out or either was aggressive when she was hungry.
She calmed down at my touch, and I sat down in true i king chair, swaying with her. She probably was just tired.
All i had do is get security around this bitch more often, and I think me and mines set for life. I really had enough money to stop the music, and just focus on my kids, and getting married. Once I got married, I wanted another 2-3 kids with Jalanee.
I smiled and looked down at Amira, who was quickly dozing off. I really had the rest of my life planned out,and I wanted it to go exactly like that.
"Yeah. I'll call you later." Jalanee says walking into the room. She looks at me with a frown. "Nana went into a whole prayer frenzy. I had to hang up before she started bringing up god."
"Why youn' look happy?" I bluntly asked.
"I don't know." She shrugs and looks down at Amira in my arms. "I just wish we I had our son with us. I wanted twins so bad." She says lowly.
This shit will always be something I felt responsible for, and ion think neither of us will ever get over it. All I had to do is get these bitches in check, so they could leave her alone.
"I just don't think this is something to be happy about."
"Why you say that?" I say
"Because it should've never happened. Us losing Amir, should've never happened. Me going to the hospital, and me getting stabbed. It just wasn't suppose to happen."
"I know. And I'm sorry I wasn't there. And In sorry that I ain't stop this shit before it got up to this."
"What you mean?" She says tilting her head.
"If only I would've controlled Jania. She wouldn't have even been able to get near you."
She blinks quickly and gives me a small smile. "Kentrell. This isn't your fault-"
"But it's what everyone was thinking. This my fault."
"It's not. You can't control what one lunatic decides to do. I don't blame you for any of this. I promise. And you shouldn't blame yourself. Alright?"
No matter what anybody told me I was always going to believe I'm at fault for losing Amir and sending my girl to the hospital.
"Alright."
