52 ◈ Foul is Fair

Hyunjin breathed out a sigh as the dorm room door thumped close behind him, a resonant click inside the doorframe announcing to the pair he had successfully entered Seungmin's room after their extended time sneaking through the human dorms.

Had it not been for the strange multitude of students wandering outside their rooms on that day they could have been within the safety of Seungmin's dorm within seconds. But after almost colliding with a few students, almost alerting the teachers and faculty wandering the dorm buildings outside to ensure the students stayed inside, and finding themselves in a couple close proximity situations where Seungmin was pressed into the vampire's chest, the quick jaunt to sneak Hyunjin over turned into a painstakingly gruesome task. Not the close proximity part of the journey. Every other part was painful, however. Especially when his toes were stepped on in their scramble.

As the human hurriedly escaped to the desk, Hyunjin's hand lingered on the doorknob behind them as he inquired, "Should I lock it?"

"No. Keep it open."

"And where are your other roommates?"

"You ask me that as if I keep constant watch on them," Seungmin accused as he whipped back around to the vampire, a slight smirk on his lips as he finalized, "But the two I am not familiar with are with their friends, and Jisung told me he would be spending the day with Minho, in the vampire dorm since security seems to be becoming more relaxed with the students. He snuck over last night."

Hyunjin quirked an eyebrow at the human, as if to wordlessly jeer at him the human was providing his point of asking the question and was disproving his denial of such. The skin on his nose nearly went numb with the amount he scrunched his face up. His eyebrows nearly met in the center with how tempted they were to net together, firmly despite the raise in one and the descent of the other. In response to the melting features, Seungmin simply stopped in his tracks and stared at him. He blinked. Once. Twice. Then shifted his head away with a gentle shake tilting his chin up. Completely unaffected by the puzzlement contorting the vampire's features into the Picasso painting the lines on his face accented.

Seungmin continued his path back to the desk he typically occupied with his notebooks and endless theories.

Behind him, Hyunjin allowed his hand to slip from the doorknob. His eyesight followed the pathway of his hand, falling down, down, slipping to the space by his side, as his gaze lingered by a spot next to the doorway.

A wooden baseball bat, propped against the wall.

He touched the curved wood, his fingertips brushing lightly on the smooth curves of the bulbous catch attached to the end of the handle. Hyuniin muttered to himself, hissing gently as he ran his fingertips over the bat, "Why is it still here?"

"The baseball bat?" Seungmin snapped his head back to the vampire, the words unintentionally heard by the human as he busied his hands with buttoning the bottom of his uniform blazer. Hyunjin shot his grip away from the bat, retracting it in to his body. If he had noticed the behavior, Seungmin never explicitly commented on the reaction as he instead chose to explain, "Of course the bat is still here. It's Jisung's. He used to play with the academy's team but quit about a year back, he says he keeps it around now for self-defense but I think he keeps it because he's scared to lose those memories."

Hyunjin nodded. He reached his grip out again, fingers wrapping around the handle as he picked up the familiar baseball bat.

Seungmin pulled his blazer off. He hummed, "Be careful with it."

"It's a bat, it's meant to hit things. It can take a beating," Hyunjin mumbled the protest as he weighed the object in his hands. Heavy. Heavier than he expected, with how easy he had seen it and other baseball bats of it's type be swung around like an excited little girl tosses threadless ragdolls during 'tea time'.
