"I will not marry a stranger!" A girl shouted, pacing backwards and forwards in her room. A maid stood in the corner, her hair was brown and short, tucked behind her ears smartly. Her hands were held in front of her as she watched the woman in front of her, well she'd barely call her a woman. "He's not a stranger, you met him when you were kids" The girl's pacing stopped, as she looked towards the woman. Her dark brown eyes almost boring holes into her. "Rize, you don't get it, we were kids, do you think I remember him?" The girl flopped onto her bed, her frizzy white hair falling wildly onto the bed under her. "Besides I only went to those events to see my dad" the girl stopped, as reality washed over her "Father would only need me to marry if" sitting up the look on the maid's face confirmed it. "He's dying and still doesn't dare to come stay in the castle with his daughter"
"That's hardly his choice" The maid grunted "Even if he is on his death bed, he'd still manage to throw a cain at you" The woman moved sitting beside the woman "You're not fit to run the throne, you illegitimate mess!" the girl mocked, and they both fell into laughter. "Besides marrying this man will help strengthen defences, and he's a king already" The girl rolled over 'hmphing' at Rize's words. "I heard he was attractive, and that he's had many people try to marry him"
"So, what does he want with me" The woman sighed "I'm a painting that someone forgot to blend" the girl muttered.
"Hayami" Rize whispered, moving to cup the girls cheeks "All of the land think you're a beautiful princess, your beautiful white hair, and fair skin, makes you look like the willow Maiden" Rize kissed the girls forehead "Have a think about it ok" suddenly her bedroom door burst open. Loud squealing filled the room "Oh my god look at her Rika!" A brown-haired girl shouted
"Yuck, she looked engaged!" The ginger haired girl retorted, Hayami sat up, her eyes filling with stars when she saw the girls in her room. "Ahem!" Suddenly all the girls flinched "M-mother!" The servants suddenly straightened their backs and bowed. "What have I told you about your volume, what would visitors think if they heard this from the princesses' room?"
"We don't have any guests today, I checked before cleaning the spare rooms" The brown-haired girl explained, fiddling with her plaited hair. "One thing you learn about tending to royals, never expect them to follow the schedule Tira" The woman that the servants called mother stood up. Patting the girls on their heads "Keep quiet but remember you have washing to dry" The girls smiled, and the minute the door shut almost flew to lie on the bed beside Hayami. They rested in the comfort of her long hair, their eyes gazing to them. "Stop, your making me embarrassed"
"I heard he's really really attractive" Rika chirped, her green eyes beaming onto Hayami, "And you're really pretty so you'd match" Hayami sat up and crossed her arms "And you think I'll say yes to my father's wishes?"
"Oh, but say yes to ours, at least give him a go" Tira begged grabbing her hand. Tira's skin tone stuck out against Hayami's pale skin, but neither of the girls minded. Having grown up in the palace together they considered each other sisters, they didn't mind that she was unique looking, or that her vitiligo laned perfectly on her face. "Don't you remember how good looking he was at that meeting" Hayami shook her head
"I was more focused on seeing my dad that day" Rika grabbed the girl pulling her back onto the bed "Let us refresh your memory"
"His dad was visiting to settle trade with your father, and you were kept away from him, well you know why" Tira explained, her brown eyes moving to Rika, she cleared her throat "You ugly child! You killed your mother and couldn't even look heavenly!" She intimidated, the group all falling into laughter. "But don't you remember, we were trying to sneak in, and he caught us"
"He has dark black hair, pale skin, he was quite tall for his age"
"Ooo, remember his scar! Across his face, that must mean he was a bad boy at such a young age"
"He- he has a scar across his face" the girls nodded, Hayami's eyes glanced to the side with a small smile tugging at her lips. "Ahh, she's considering it" Rika called out loudly "And his eyes were a deep blue, like sapphires" the girls describing him fell on the bed "I wish I was royalty so that I could marry him" Rika muttered and Hayami fell back "I wish I was a maid so I didn't have so many duties"
"Being a maid has more duties than you" Tira quickly shot back
"Cleaning is easy, deciding if I should marry a man to save our country and open our trades" Hayami didn't finish that sentence she just sighed. The girls looked at each other and then moved to cuddle up to her sides, grabbing the hand that laid either side of her "Well, that's if he even agrees to it, Mother said he's popular with woman, with many marriage proposals" Hayami closed her eyes.
"He agreed to it!?" Hayami yelled reading the parchment in her hand
"Shhhhh" followed the shout, a sigh fell from the maid's lips "Your dad did build a bond with that country, so I'm not surprised"
"You didn't tell me this!" Hayami shouted again screwing up the piece of paper "Even locked away in his mansion he's still managing to terrorise me"
"Hayami you haven't even met this man, and you're the one who has to sign the vows not your father" Rize muttered, trying to quiet the loud princess. "Nenryō is a kingdom with no land to grow crops, herbs, or our healing flowers like our land, but the Saku kingdom, doesn't have mines filled with coal or other resources like Nenryo does" Hayami's face was in her arms on the desk, as Rize explained, "It's beneficial for the kingdom, you can unite us and become on kingdom, helping both sides"
"You don't get it" Hayami muttered "Marriage is meant for people in love, that's what the fairy-tale books told me, the princess kissed the one she loved, and they got married"
"Those are called fairy-tales, because they are just that tales" Hayami's sad eyes moved up "So you don't think I'll find love"
"You have found love, love in your kingdom" Rize smiled softly patting her head, "he's scheduling to visit here, one day isn't enough to get to know each other, give it ten days, and if he's not the one" Rize paused biting her lip "Then you'll have to make the decision over yourself or your kingdom" Hayami buried her head in her arms. "I'll let you have a break from your studying today" Rize whispered, stepping out the door. Her eyebrows furrowed as her back slowly hit the back of the wall. Rize was thrown the role to raise Hayami, due to her mother's death in childbirth and her father's stubbornness and violence, it was a role that she didn't want but she was now thankful for. The look on her face wasn't of a worried maid it was of a worried mother, she sighed and pushed off the door descending the luxurious corridor.
"Brother" A boy spoke, his gaze slowly moved up, a boy with two toned hair looked down at his brother working by his desk. His dark eyes met his and the brother flinched slightly "I heard that you accepted the marriage proposal" He muttered, the man placed his chin on his hand and his elbow on the desk "They have land to grow, so we don't need to keep livestock for feeding" The boy's eyebrows knotted "But you had two other countries offer that to you"
"Shoto, I know you are my advisor but, I know what I'm doing" He sighed "Just because dad favoured you more doesn't mean you have any say"
"I wasn't dad's favourite! You can't keep using that against me, Touya" he retorted "I think your being idiotic, uniting two kingdoms is hard, and both kingdoms will cause ruckus"
"If I say no it will start a war" Touya spoke calmly his eyes grazing some parchment "We have a good bond with the king there, we've opened trade to ensure our livestock are fed" His eyes raised to his brother "If I saw no they could stop trade, and declare war, kings are protective of their daughters dignity" Touya placed down the parchment writing on it. "I'll be visiting the kingdom in the next week" the brother turned his hand placing on the door handle "Oh, Shoto" he refusing to mix gazes "Don't shout out that we're brothers to loud, who knows who's listening" he didn't respond he stepped out the room. Touya's hand curled his fingers covering his lips, as his thoughts went on to that night.
