After the laughing fit was over, Hayami let out a loud sigh "That's how it should be in a palace" She muttered. She found herself lying on the bed, and Fuyumi was sat at the edge looking down at her. "They've been the rules since King Enji ruled" she muttered, and Hayami sighed "What a dumb king"

"Your highness!" Fuyumi warned before laughing again, Hayami sat up smiling and then her smile vanished "From what I heard he's busy isn't he" She nodded her head, the princess sighed "Not like I even care" she grumbled falling back to her bed. Fuyumi smiled tenderly "Yeah, not like he cared either" She teased poking at the girl, the maid sighed "There is a ball to be held on the last day, to introduce you to the kingdom" She explained "Oh, and the king made it very clear that he wanted a day off to show you the town" Hayami's gaze rolled over to the curtain dividing the rooms, and sighed. Wishing they'd come quicker.

A dark stary sky stretched above the kingdom, as the princess leaned on her window to look at the sky. "Hayami?" She turned her gaze to where the voice was coming from, Dabi had lifted the curtain and his gaze finally met hers. Her heart filled with warmth; she had craved that gaze. Playing it off with a smile she greeted the man into the room with her, he moved beside her and looked up out the windows. "Your kingdom is very pretty" She muttered

"You've been trapped inside the castle all day, I'm not sure you have that intelligence" he joked, but she grabbed his arm and pointed out at the city. "The stars on the ground" he looked out at the village that rested past his castle walls "And how the smoke dances here" she noted pointing towards a large pool of smoke seeping into the sky. "It's nice, but it obstructs the stars" She noted "So I guess your kingdom isn't at all pretty"

"The sky's pretty clear tonight" He muttered, she moved her gaze up, joining the stars in her mind. "That's because you're here" he whispered ever so quietly; she had heard him but decided to stay silent savouring this moment. After a while she pushed off the windowsill "Actually, your kingdom does have a fault"

"Do enlighten me?"

"You don't let your servants talk to you" Dabi's shoulders flinched, and his gaze moved to the garden below, some servants were still working, the moon being their only light at that time. "I never really thought about it" Hayami stepped towards him "Never thought about it!" She basically shouted "Those are people too, least you could do is talk to them"

"I'll eradicate the rule then" He muttered, not moving his gaze to Hayami

"What?" She whispered softly, finally his blue gaze met hers.

"I'll eradicate it" He repeated "It was a rule my father made, so I'm more than happy to get rid of it" He stood up firmly staring down at the small woman in front of him "Besides, I need to make my fiancé happy" Hayami's cheeks flushed. His hand traced her cheeks "You left something in my room" He remembered, her soft pink cheeks reminding him. Her gaze widened, she pulled back reached up into her hair. "God this stupid hair" She grumbled "It's too big, I can't feel anything when it's in it, it's such a pain-"

"I like your hair" Dabi quickly muttered, his hand moving from her cheek to play with a strand, Hayami moved her gaze to look up into his eyes. He offered her a small smile before turning to look up into the sky "I heard in town the willow maiden, there's more to the story isn't their?" Hayami smiled thankful he was changing the subject. "Yes, do you want me to tell you it now" His gaze moved down to the princess standing next to him. "I'm not tired yet, a bedtime story might get me in the mood" he muttered calmly, Hayami sat down on her bed her hands in her lap. "I'll tell you it then" she smiled.

The story wasn't finished when the many men that fell for her appearance approached her. She would tell the story that the willow tree told her, her soulmate would come for her. When he did, the willow leaves would separate letting him in. Telling the maiden, he was the one. A kiss was all that was needed to be shared between the two, then the maiden would be released from the tree. To live her life with the man she has always been waiting for, the man to teach her that she's beautiful, and show her the beauty she's spread across the world.

Hayami sat still, staring up at the man watching the stars twinkle. "Is that the end?" she nodded

"The maiden was ripped from the willow tree, splitting her souls remember?" he nodded his gaze landing on the woman staring up at him with so much hope. "You believe a marriage should be between two people who love each other, correct?" she nodded her head. Her gaze on her hands in her lap "Well, that's what the fairy-tales taught me" She muttered embarrassed.

"The picture books?" he replied

"Yes, the picture books, I didn't think" Her gaze was on his, but now it faltered "I didn't learn anything about real love, I didn't think anyone would love me" She muttered, only just for Dabi to hear. His gaze didn't change looking upon her sad features "This is the only time when I've thought you were ugly" Her eyes widened as she turned to look up at him "I- I am ugly to you-?"

"Such a pretty face shouldn't have a sad expression like that" He muttered softly; her words were caught in her throat. "That was a nice bedtime story" he whispered "You should sleep" he turned lifting the curtain between their rooms "Goodnight, Dabi" she called. He stopped only for a second and continued walking.

As if by magic, Fuyumi's words were true the days flew by. "Are you sure this is a good idea? Letting her out in public here?" Shoto questioned watching his brother sat at a window, this study was private and all for the King. A large picture stood behind the desk, a man with a harsh gaze, red hair and red beard painted in the picture. Dabi was watching a maid outside as she pulled the sheets from the line, "She'll be by my side, so she's protected" he muttered, watching the girl he'd grown fond of stepping towards the maid. Shoto stepped towards the window looking out "Are you sure sister should be getting so close to her?"

"You jealous?" Dabi muttered, and his brother flinched slightly, quickly cooling his hot head off. "No, I'm just saying it wouldn't be ideal for the princess to find out that Dad's children are workers here"

"It wouldn't matter if she did, that's how her palace works, it's just that unfortunately you are actually related to me" Hayami was helping Fuyumi, both carrying a pile each. "I still don't think it's a good idea letting her out into public"

"It would be no different when she attended the ball"

"No, it would, we know father won't show his face at the ball" The brother quickly argued, "Father isn't after me, he's after her." Dabi quickly cut in, reading a document that was placed on his desk "If I'm there he won't attack because he knows I'll protect her, he's not foolish" The man scrunched his fists stepping outside. "You seem to care for my fiancé more than me" Dabi muttered, as Shoto was stepping out the door.

The sun was hot outside, so Hayami knew she had to go out and help Fuyumi with her chores. As she carried a pile her gaze moved up to a window in the castle, a figure was stood near it. "Hm?" Fuyumi noticed her slowed steps "That's King Dabi's study" the figure moved from the window "Aren't you meant to be meeting him in town soon" the maid questioned. Hayami's cheeks were tinted pink, thinking how cute it was the timing of her catching Dabi watching her, and she turned her gaze to the maid "I have time to help you" She smiled

"God, I might have to return with you back to your palace" the maid teased "A royal that helps with the work" another maid stepped towards the group a brush in hand "Not to mention, getting the King to get rid of the rule" Hayami smiled, and flapped her hand in front of her "It's no big deal, it's not like theirs much I can do" her gaze moved back to Dabi's study "He said that I shouldn't leave the grounds unless he's with me" Fuyumi's brows furrowed slightly, and she shook her head "Well, we better get you in so you can look amazing for your date"

"It's not a date!" Hayami squeaked "It's just a tour of the town" Fuyumi rolled her eyes as the two began to fall into step again.
