"So, when he comes what will you say to him" Rize stood at the side of the room, while maids shoved Hayami into a dress. "Welcome King Dabi, I thank you for gracing me with your presence today"
"Will you kiss me on the lips" Followed kissy noises fell from a brown-haired maid's lips. She looked up and smiled, Hayami scowled down at her, "Mother"
"Rize"
"Rize, gave me a couple days to get to know him, and if I don't then I'll say no to this marriage" Hayami scoffed, suddenly gasping as Tira tightened her corset. She chuckled and then brushed her skirt "You look beautiful, your highness"
"You look like you need more chores, Ti-Raaaa" Hayami mocked and Tira quickly shot a look towards Rize, she sighed her forehead creasing. "Please can you girls behave for his highness' trip" Hayami sighed and sat down looking in her mirror "But I didn't even want to do this anyway"
"It's your father's wishes, so you can grow a better kingdom"
"More like he doesn't trust me to run a country, so he gets a big king to do it" Hayami whispered not reaching ear level of everyone else in the room. "Hey, where's Rika?" She questioned turning and scanning the maids, searching for her fiery hair that stuck out amongst the boring hair colours. "I think she's with her brother" Tira muttered looking around the room "Strange, I thought she'd want to be here to talk you into it"
"And she doesn't have her break period till later" Rize grumbled, and the maids all turned looking at her twitching eye "N-no she moved it... without... telling... you" Tira panicked, schooling a smile on her face. "Everyone out!" Rize called and like clockwork the maids left quickly, she sighed "I need you to go to the guards, get the royal one to escort you to the gate" She paused as she looked towards the princess. She was adorning a veil, that covered only her face "You want to wear that when you see him? Don't you want your husband to see your face?" Hayami remained quiet, Rize sighed "Good luck today" She left the room shutting the door.
Hayami sat there for a while, her gaze on her reflection, the veil blending the dark spots of skin. Don't you remember the scar across his face? Her hand moved to rub across her cheek, across her nose and to her other cheek, following where his scar was described to be. Standing up she moved to leave the room.
"No straighten your back!" A loud voice shouted "God, do you expect that hit to have impact more force" a man with ginger hair shouted. It was long and tied up in a high ponytail messily. His dark green eyes shot around the room observing the knights fighting in the hall "Aki" I voice groaned next to him, before a head crashed on his shoulder. "Princess" He groaned back, mimicking her, his eyes still on the knights "Spread your legs wider!" He shouted, and Hayami moved her Red eyes out to the knights "Come on your highness is watching, put on a decent show!" He called, turning his gaze back down to her. "You need me to escort you to the gates to welcome the king- Oh I'm sorry, your husband" He mocked and Hayami pushed at him. He chuckled "Honestly why are you listening to your fathers demands, like he deserves that"
"Because it will benefit the country" Hayami muttered, Aki's eyes fell on her face his brows furrowed before moving back to the guards "To your duties, don't forget the king of Nenryō is arriving today, double up on guards" he turned to the girl "Let's go" he muttered.
Walking across the gardens Hayami's gaze fell on the flowers "They're beautiful this year"
"They are every year" Aki retorted, Hayami shoved him playfully "Unfair, you know I can't do that back or mother will turn me into fertiliser"
"As if! You'd kill the flowers" She retorted, and Aki chuckled softly, reaching up and knocking on her forehead gently "What's up with this?" Hayami kept her gaze straight ahead "It'll hurt less if I reject this marriage" her voice hummed softly. Aki huffed at her words his gaze landing on the gate, "He's here" Hayami's eyes looked up and her hands clasped her skirt. "Ok, I can do this" she took a deep breath in. Reaching the gates, the door to the carriage opened "Princess Hayami?" A man stuck his head out the carriage, the girl smiled up at him "I didn't think you'd be expecting marriage on the first day, of meeting his Higness" Hayami flinched moving her hands to cover her face. "Shoto" a voice called from in the carriage, Aki was twitching in rage beside her "She wore it because she's not comfortable with some strangers" He grumbled, quickly she reached placing her hand on Aki's arm. He stopped, suddenly a figure emerged from the carriage, his eyes were on her hand on Aki's. Slowly she removed it, and the gaze travelled up to her face "Sapphire eyes" She whispered and then bowed "King Dabi, I thank you for gracing us with your presence, and coming at such short notice"
"Thank you for inviting me, your highness" Hayami smiled at his words, her gaze moving to inspect him her eyes landing on his scar, it went across his face, and across his nose. Her eyes widened, as her mind raced to what the cause of that could've been. "Princess Hayami" She moved her gaze up to his eyes, after he snapped her out of her trance "Shall I show you around the palace?" Dabi nodded and the two began to walk, leaving Aki and Shoto behind. "Stop scowling, I don't know how princesses work" He muttered as the pair walked slowly behind them.
"Is your father here? I wouldn't mind paying respects" Hayami flinched as he mentioned his name "Oh, um" She paused "He's not he's staying in a mansion closer to the... hospital" Dabi moved his gaze towards the girl, and down to her white knuckles from clutching her skirt. He stopped and she slowly stopped, looking up at him. Suddenly he leaned in staring at her "Do I intimidate you?" he questioned, her eyes shot back and forth to each eye not knowing where to settle. The words were caught in her throat "N-no" she muttered out, he sighed and leaned back from her. Hayami moved to cover her flushed cheeks, her heartbeat racing in her ears "You should know not to do that so randomly to a woman" She whispered, and he looked towards her. "But you're not just a woman" He replied, her shoulders tensed not thinking he would hear that, "You're my woman, isn't it our duty to be close?"
"D-d-duty" Hayami stuttered, Dabi shrugged his shoulders and began to walk again "I've heard the palace has a beautiful garden" Hayami ran to catch up to him "Y-yes, it's a memorial for the Queen" Dabi's gaze moved gently towards the woman next to him, her smile was reminiscent, but her eyes were filled with pain. "We don't have to go" He sighed softly "If it's too emotional for you" Hayami stopped calmly. He continued walking and then stopped slowly his gaze mingling with hers. She gasped softly her cheeks flushing, moving her gaze away "Is this your duty to care for me"
"No" he answered, no emotion leaked from his voice, he stepped closer. "Even though you're hiding your face, your eyes were sad" her gaze moved up to him, her body fluttered with heat. He was being so kind, kind for someone who was marrying her for land. "Losing a parent is hard, I don't want to force you through that pain"
"I- I've never been in their before" She finally muttered, Dabi's face lacked emotion as he looked down upon her. "My Dad said it was off limits to me because I killed" She paused "Because I was a reckless kid, you know messing up flower beds" She laughed awkwardly. Dabi stared down on her, before moving his gaze out the window, "Then we can visit that garden" Outside the window the plants fluttered as the water fountain glistened. "Of course!" Her hands picked up her skirts as she turned "We can sit out there, for tea if you want, it's really pretty, I normally sit out there with the maids, and we sometimes watch the dogs train" She paused and covered her cheeks "I-I'm rambling, my apology's"
"I wouldn't mind being took to your favourite spots" Hayami fanned her cheeks with her hands and nodded, leading him away to the garden.
