A woman hummed in her sleep, slowly stirring before her eyes fluttered open, welcoming the light of the morning. "Finally," The man's voice broke her out of her sleepy daze, she sat up staring down at the man resting next to her, he slowly sat up staring at her. "Dabi" she gasped, and looked down at the bed, her cheeks flushing, and she turned away. "You had a nightmare, don't you remember" Suddenly the nightmare flashed before her eyes and her body slowly fell back. But warm arms caught her "Maybe you should sleep more" she shook her head quickly "Hayami, I won't sleep with you now if you need sleep, I've got work to do"
"What time is it?" She questioned
"Late" he muttered "I tried to get up to observe documents, but your hands were tightly wrapped around my arm" He explained "How could a gentleman break out of a tight grasp of a lady" her cheeks flushed, and she began to fan them
"You get some excitement out of teasing me don't you" the man nodded, and the woman shook her head grumbling to herself. "Go do your work that you wanted to do so badly then" Dabi sat on her bed still blinking at her. She stared at him, her gaze falling to his clothes, it was a laced-up top however the lace was extremely loose. Her eyes widened and she moved to look closer "Hayami, looking at a man like that when he's in your bed, is teasing me surely" His finger placed under her chin bringing it up so that she was staring wide eyed at the man. Shaking her head, she moved away from him "I just saw more scars" he looked down at his chest. "How did you get them" She questioned cautiously, Dabi was silent for a moment "My father did half of them" Hayami's eyes widened, and she turned her gaze towards Dabi, offering him a look of sympathy. He stared back emotionless "That's why he's no longer king, he's not fit mentally to rule a country if this is how he treats his children" Hayami moved to sit closer to him and held out her hand. He looked down at it giving her his hand, she pulled his sleeve up staring at all the scars, her gaze was pained as if she felt the pain he did when he was given them. "It's not that bad, some of them I gave myself" Hayami flinched and looked up into his eyes, she furrowed her brows, her hands cupping her cheeks she placed her forehead on his. She didn't say anything, but her actions almost implied that she understood his pain. Dabi's eyes widened at her gesture and he slowly moved his arms to wrap around her shoulders, bring her into a hug.
"We can't keep sitting like this" Dabi muttered as he slowly pulled away "You have a carriage to catch, to take you home" Hayami smiled sweetly. "And who knows, maybe the next time I meet you, you'll get to see all my scars" he shrugged "Maybe I can see all your marks"
"N-no!" Hayami quickly squealed covering her chest, his gaze moved down to where her arms were shield and his eyebrows raised. Standing up he then moved to leave the room, "Shoto will be accompanying you on your journey back, just so I know that your safe" with one last look her left the room
Climbing into a carriage with two hands supporting her from behind, she turned to look down at the man stood in front of the carriage doors. "I'm not going to chase after your moving carriage like an imbecile"
"Watch it!" She retorted, and Dabi grabbed her hand. Stealing her gaze for himself "Be safe, and don't scream for me in your sleep" Hayami sighed, shaking her head "You just can't be sentimental, can you" The man smiled for a split second up at the woman. "Goodbye Touya" Shoto in the carriage flinched hearing that name drift from Hayami's sweet lips. "Don't make me wait for you to visit me" Hayami pulled her hand from his bowing slightly before sitting at her chair. Dabi was stunned in silence, he was stunned at how she could make him feel so, he watched their carriage depart and he sighed stepping away.
Shoto looked up at the woman, as the carriage swayed side by side, "You and Touya dating then?" he emphasized his name, Hayami opened her mouth to answer before it shut. She sat and pondered. "Well obviously because we're due to marrying"
"No, you're not listening" Hayami flicked her gaze up to the man sat across from her "Are Hayami and Touya dating?" she furrowed her gaze "Not the king and princess" Suddenly the carriage stopped, and their gazes both fell to the outside. A scream caused the two inside the carriage to flinch, Hayami quickly moved to sit on the seat Shoto was, her hands pulled the curtains revealing the coach man at the front. He wasn't anywhere to be seen; the horses moved frantically. "Hayami get away from their" She looked towards the man as he held her down, producing a gleaming blade from his jacket. "This is bad" he muttered "For your sake let's hope that these are just robbers." Suddenly the door opened, the man stared down at the two who were hunched down, "Here she is" The man reached in grabbed the woman's arm, suddenly a blade sliced at it. He let go of her and glared towards the man in the carriage. "You" the man grumbled "Enji's son born from that temptress" Hayami's eyes widened as she looked towards Shoto "Yeah, well dearest ol' dad got tempted 3 times" The man stood up, holding his shoulders high as he moved to protect the woman behind her "Maybe it was fathers lack of control which is why we're all here"
"You speak ill of the king!" The man grumbled, producing a sword
"He's not the king" Shoto quickly leapt forward their blade clinking as they began to fight "Shoto!" Hayami called, and he turned his gaze as he held the knife from him. "Stay in their, this shouldn't take long" The door closed, and the woman sat inside the carriage feeling useless. "Think Hayami" She muttered, her thoughts racing back to all the training Aki had given her in self-defence. She sighed "You didn't teach me how to protect others only myself"
"Princess" A voice called out; the voice was cold that it shook her to the bone. She slowly stood up, her eyes widening at the sight. Shoto was being detained, his blade being held up to his throat. "Hello Princess" Her eyes widened as she stared up at the man on the horse, she opened up the door stepping out as she brushed the dirt from her skirts "Enji Todoroki" she greeted, bowing slightly. "This is awfully inconvenient, I'm trying to leave this place" he scowled at the woman in front of him "I won't take up much your time, your highness" he held herself up, and Shoto looked towards her noticing her shoulders trembling ever so slightly. "If I go with you, you let them go" He gaze fell to a body lying on the floor "Let him go"
"Why? He's my property, a mistake I didn't manage to paint over, just like those marks on your face" Her eyes widened at his words, she cleared her throat
"I won't comply and follow you till you let him go"
"Hayami, run!" He called, she looked towards the man the blade only being pulled closer to his throat. "Let him go" the man ordered, and Shoto was let go quickly he ran towards the woman. "Hayami come on we can run," He grabbed her arm, but she didn't move. Her gaze moved towards him slowly, her face lacked emotion as she nodded. He let go off her and then ran towards one of the horses, pulling himself up and beginning to ride away. "A woman of her word I see" She smiled at him, he stepped down from his horse and stepped towards her.
Dabi was in his office, when suddenly a guard burst through the door "We've had word that they are planning to target the carriage" Dabi turned his gaze to the white-haired guard. Natsuo was sweating, his brows knotted. "We've sent guards to go after them but if it's dad" he paused and Dabi stood up.
"I thought my ears were feeling a bit hot, she must be calling for me" he muttered stepping towards the door, the knight took off down the corridor "Get his majesty's horse ready!"
