Alis stirred awake, feeling Pongo's fur against her leg. She reached down and her fingers through his fur, smiling at the familiar texture. "Hey, buddy."
The domestic canine barked in acknowledgment. She continued to pet Pongo before finally getting up from the bed to go to the kitchen. Cautiously, Alis made her way around the house with Pongo gently guiding her to the table.
She smiled, feeling the canine bump his nose in the right direction, Ruvik trained him well. Pongo's a great dog.
When Ruvik came home with the German Shepherd one day, she was shocked. Alis was so moved to know how much Ruvik cares about her.
He doesn't mistreat her like her family did, never tries to stop her whenever she wanted to go outside, sometimes, he would even join her. The old lady next door was very fond of the duo as well, always checking in on them whenever she had the chance.
Alis knows she's only a burden for Ruvik because of her disability, but he never once said anything about it. In fact, he would always tell her how beautiful he thought her eyes were. Whenever she heard that, it never failed to make her blush.
Wouldn't that mean he's been staring at her the whole time?
All of a sudden, she heard people arguing outside the house. If Alis' guess was correct, the direction the noise was coming from was coming from near the front door.
Pongo started growling.
"Pongo? What's wrong?" Alis reached down to pet him, but the touch was only fleeting, the dog got up from where he was laying and ran to the front door. He growled aggressively at whoever was on the other side, and a few second later he was barking viciously.
Alis cautiously stood up from her chair and, using her hands, she maneuvered her way to the front door. When she made it to the wooden door, she pat Pongo's head and soothed him, calming the dog down so she could hear the commotion when she leaned he ear against the door.
"Aye you damn pigs! Get lost"
"You ain't welcome here!"
"Leave 'em alone, will ya!"
Her neighbors seemed angry at a group of people.
"Just break open the door."
Alis scrambled away right after she heard how close that last voice was, the mysterious group started banging on the door. In Her haste for distance, she tripped on an unknown object and heard something crash. Then she could hear footsteps, multiple footsteps.
"Sir, she's hear."
"Good, take her."
She felt someone grab her by the arm and yank her from the floor. "L-Let go of me! Who are you people?!"
"The Military Police." This guy's sounded like he was in charge. "Hurry up, these people are starting to get on my nerves."
The person holding Alis by her arm rushed her towards the door, when they reached the doorway she heard Pongo growling and a cry of pain coming from the living area of the house.
"Ow, you damn dog!"
Then she heard Pongo whining
"No, please! Don't hurt him!" Tears were running down her face as she was forced to keep moving forward, passing by the people she lived near yelling at the MP's for harassing her.
"What the hell is wrong with you guys?!"
"Let her go you son of a bitch!"
"Where do you think you're taking her!"
She cried more as she heard her neighbors do their best to come to her defense, it was so loud she couldn't make out everyone's voice. She could still hear Pongo as he whined inside the house, but her attention was soon directed to the sound of gtunting.
A fight?
They were actually fighting to help her?
This was as heart warming as it was breaking...
"What...what do you want from me?"
"Sweetheart, we don't want anything to do with you." The soldier scoffed. "Your little boyfriend didn't hold up his end of the deal. We'll be using you against him."
"Ruvik...no...." She whispered. "Please, please don't. There must be a mistake!"
But no matter what she said, they wouldn't listen. The blind woman's word might as well have been falling on deaf ears...
