Today is something I have been thinking about since I got my first A on a test.

Jordan and I are finally going to see somewhat of how our future looks.

See one of us is going to Harvard and the other is not. It is all determined on who got the bigger envelope.

The letters came in yesterday. I had asked Sadie to pick them both up for me and Jordan and to not tell us who's was who's.

Over the years we have fluctuated between being first and second to each other so it truly could be either of us.

We made sure to attend all our classes today and then we would open our letters in the common room in the main building by ourselves.

Jordan had asked if we should invite Poppy and Casper but I decided the moments should be just between us, hell this was about the two of us no one else.

"I can't believe the big moment is finally here and I don't get to witness it first hand." Casper grumbles during dinner.

I roll my eyes, "You'll find out soon enough."

He grumbles, "It's a whole ass historic moment in history, I have a reason to be salty about missing it."

Jordan rolls his eyes, "Dramatic ass."

Casper gasps as he places a hand on his chest, "Me?"

"Yeah you." Poppy jokes, "It's ok Cas we can just plan your gap year."

Since I've known Casper I knew he was never serious about academics. He had no plans to go to college right away, instead he decided to take a gap year.

He plans to travel to a bunch of different places and write about them. His parents weren't enthusiastic when he told them but they didn't berate him for his choices either.

I think they just wish he would choose getting a degree first before taking his trip.

The bell rings and Cas and Poppy stay in the dining hall while Jordan and I get up and throw our trash away before heading to the common room.

Once we get there I see Sadie sitting on the couch, two envelopes sitting upside down on the table in front of her.

When she sees us she stands.

"May the best freak genius win." She jokes before walking away.

Jordan and I take a seat on the couch as we stare down at the envelopes.

The one right in front of me is the bigger one and the one in front of Jordan is the smaller envelope.

My heart thuds in my chest as I realize my future is laying mere inches in front of me.

I take a look over at Jordan and I can see he's nervous too.

the thing isn't that Harvard is the only college offering us what we want but we both have worked so hard to get that one spot.

I extend my hand out to Jordan and he grabs it, intertwining our fingers.

"Ready?" I ask grabbing the edge of the big envelope.

Jordan nods as he grasps the edge of the smaller envelope.

"1..2...3"

We both flip over the envelopes and read the names.

I swallow my gasp at the name written on the bigger of the two envelopes.

Looking over I see the way Jordan's looking down at the smaller envelope with his eyebrows raised.

Looking at his envelope.

I turn back to the bigger one with the name Quinn Taylor on the front of it.

"I got in." I whisper as I rip the envelope open with one hand, using my teeth to tear the seal.

Looking back over at Jordan I see he has yet to pick up his envelope.

"You ok?" I ask and he slowly nods before looking at me.

A small smile takes over his face, "I'm proud of you Taylor." He says and I genuinely believe him, that doesn't mean he's not upset about not getting in.

I would be the same if rolls were reversed.

Grabbing his envelope I tear it open.

"Hey look you're wait listed, I don't think I've ever seen them accept and wait list someone from this school" I say with shock lacing my voice.

It was the truth. it was one and that was it, they never sent a consideration letter as well.

Jordan swallows harshly, "Yeah waitlisted."

"You got into Princeton, not even your father got into Princeton." I say trying to cheer him up.

The thing about that is I suck at cheering people up. I spent most of my time throwing insults at people rather than comforting them.

Standing from the seat I pull him up with me.

"Come on I'll buy you ice cream." I say and that brings a small laugh out of him.

I grab the envelopes before dragging him to the dining hall and buying both Jordan and I ice cream before sit back in front of Casper and Poppy.

"So tell us." Poppy bounces in her seat excitedly.

her investment in this is kind of creepy.

I look over at Jordan making sure he's ok with it. When he nods I hand my envelope over to her and she and Casper inspect it.

"You got in!" She exclaims and I nod before taking a bite of my ice cream sandwich.

"Ugh look at this, high school is almost over and prom is coming up in a few weeks. Speaking of prom have you gotten your dress yet?" Poppy asks me and I shake my head.

She groans, "Ok next weekend the two of us are going to get our dresses, oh and masks." She says referring to the fact it's a masquerade theme.

Poppy goes on to ask Casper about his plans next weekend and I turn my attention to my boyfriend.

"How's the ice cream?" I ask and he gives me his signature grin, "How about you fine out." then his lips crash down onto mine.

He sweeps his tongue into my mouth and I can taste the vanilla on his tongue.

A clearing of a throat makes us look over at Casper.

"You two have no shame." Poppy grumbles and we all laugh.

I am going to miss all of them.
