Shawn's POV
My mother looks away from me and begins to do her job as a nurse as I sit down on one of the beds, wincing at the small cuts and bruises the woods made on me whilst I was speed running through it.
"Those woods beat you up good," Gerald sits down next to me.
"I was trying not to get shot," I laugh softly.
"I will get one of the nurses," Colson says.
"Not just any. Get her," I said.
I motion my head towards my mother and Colson nods as he leaves.
I watch as he talks to my mother and she looks over before looking at another nurse and telling her something before getting up and walking over to me.
"Please, leave me alone with the nurse," I whisper to Gerald.
He gives me a questioning look and I give him an 'I will tell you later' look before he nods and leaves with Colson.
"Shawn," My mother whispers.
She sits down in front of me and slowly starts to tend to my wounds.
"Mother," I whisper.
"What are you doing here?" My mother asks.
"I am a soldier for the Confederacy. Colonel Aquila kept me for himself," I explain.
"They sold me to the Brigadier General. He needed nurses on the field," My mother says.
"Mother... I need to talk to you. Just you and I," I said.
My mother looks around before leaning a little closer. "Let us meet tonight. By the woods," She says. My mother finishes patching up my wounds before standing up and leaving.
Later that night, I cautiously walk over to the edge of the woods as I wait for my mother.
I see my mother come out of the nurse's tent as she quietly walks over to me.
"My beautiful boy," She pulls me into a hug.
"Mother," I slump into her embrace as I feel tears pricking my eyes.
"Oh how much I have missed you, prayed for you. Not just you but for your father and Camila," My mother says.
"Speaking of, I know where Camila is," I said.
"Is she... Is she okay?" My mother asks.
"Better than okay, mother. There is so much I need to tell you and so little time," I said.
"Summarize it," My mother says.
"There is this cause I have joined. It is run by slave owners who are against slavery," I said.
"Then why do they own slaves if they are against it?" My mother asks.
"To help them. They get their hands on slaves and then they help them escape to the North. Anyway, they are planning to take down the Elite Circle and Camila is helping them," I said.
"I have heard of this Elite Circle. What Camila is doing is dangerous," My mother says.
"She has it under control. Plus, they are two other soldiers here that are part of the cause. I was with them," I said.
"I saw them. I will remember their faces and everything you have told me," My mother says.
"We will find father. I know it. I have a feeling," I said.
I place my palm against the tattoo on my collarbone as my mother does the same.
"I felt a tingle that either a tribe member was near or... It was you, Camila, or your father but I was not sure. But now I am because you are in front of me, hijo," My mother says.
"Now we are together. I promise that I will protect you in my father's absence," I said.
"Thank you, my son," My mother says.
She pulls me into a hug as I know in my heart that we will find my father or should I say... I know Camila will find him.
