Lauren's POV
I'm hiding behind a stone fence that surrounds the Captain's house as I grip the trench knife in my hand.
The Hemsworth brothers and Mr. Reynolds are each on one side of me as they fire their bows and arrows impale three Confederate soldiers posted outside by the front door, dropping them dead.
"Nice shot," I speak softly.
We four move forward as the boys grab the bodies and drag them into the bushes.
I stand up and wrap my hand around the doorknob as I take a deep breath.
"We will be out here on watch," Mr. Chris Hemsworth says softly.
"Okay," I nod.
I slowly turn the doorknob, opening the front door as I step inside. "Where are you?" I whisper to myself.
There were only guards posted outside, a stupid mistake because the Captain is all alone now and I will make him scream, make him suffer because no one will save him.
I search the house for him and he's nowhere but there's just one door I haven't opened and it looks like it could be a home office.
I quietly open the door and slowly step inside as my hand tightens around the brass knuckle-shaped handle of the trench knife where my fingers are settled in.
The Captain has his back facing the door as he surveys papers that are spread out on the office desk.
I slam the door shut behind me and the Captain turns his head around to look at me.
His eyes widen in fear as he turns completely. "Lau-"
"Miss Jauregui," I interrupt him. I raise my trench knife and step closer. "Leave your weapons on the desk and step away," I said.
The Captain sets all his weapons down on the desk as he moves away.
I make my way over and grab his pistol as I aim at his chest, directly where his heart is.
"You had this coming a long time ago," I said.
"L..L-Miss Jauregui... Please," The Captain pleads.
"You betrayed my family for that evil man! You sold them out to him. We trusted you!" I growl.
"I had to-"
"You were just looking out for yourself. Your loyalty shifted once you found out how much danger we were putting ourselves in for freeing slaves. You should have died protecting my family, that was your duty!" I said.
"And you are killing us off now? For revenge?" The Captain says.
"Death is too generous for the Elite Circle but it is the closest thing to you all burning in hell during these times," I said.
Before the Captain can reply, I shift the gun to his left knee and I pull the trigger as he goes down in screams of pain.
I grip the trench knife and I walk closer as I grip his hair and pull it so he's looking up at me.
"I will kill every single one of you, everyone in the states will be free," I growl.
I then bring the trench knife up and slice his throat open as blood splatters on me.
I let go of him and step back as he falls, choking on his own blood, and seconds later, the gurgling stops, and the Captain's lifeless eyes are staring up at me.
I kneel and open his Confederate Army jacket as my hands got stained with his blood.
I search for anything I can find so I can figure out where the other members are or a mention of Camila's mother.
