Lauren's POV
At the Union camp...
After a few miles trip, Camila and I enter the main tent where the Brigadier General is.
"Miss Jauregui, it is an honor to finally meet you," The Brigadier smiles. He rounds the table and holds a hand out. "Brigadier General Flores. The General sends his apologies for not being here but he is caught up in the bigger fight," The Brigadier says.
I shake his hand and smile. "I understand, there is a bigger stake at play," I said.
"But I am here at your command. My men are yours," The Brigadier says.
"We leave early dawn," I said.
"Exactly what we have been planning for," The Brigadier nods.
"And where will we be staying?" Camila speaks.
The Brigadier pulls us two closer and lowers his voice. "The men have their own tent. I assume you two want privacy," He says, winking. The Brigadier pulls back and smiles. "I will show you where your tent is. The General made sure that it was up to your liking," He says.
"I hope your soldiers did not get worse tents just because of us," I said.
The Brigadier pulls back the flap of the tent and allows me and Camila to exit first as Alejandro and the men form a protective semi-circle around us.
The Brigadier looks at the men as he walks beside me on my left, Camila always on my right side.
"These men of yours, have not left you unprotective even when you are in a camp of a group of two hundred Union soldiers," The Brigadier says.
"I am an important woman," I said.
"Yes, you are. Although, the South is being fooled. They see an illusion, we see the truth," The Brigadier says.
"I would not be enslaved for my actions. They will set an example of me if they come to find out that I am continuing what my parents were doing," I said.
"The General can offer you protection, Miss Jauregui," The Brigadier says.
"I appreciate it but my men are capable of protecting me," I said.
"You have ex-Captain Efron with you, yes?" The Brigadier says.
"Yes, he is in charge of all security," I nod.
The Brigadier stops outside of a tent and turns to face both me and Camila. "This is your tent, ladies," He says. The Brigadier looks at the men. "Your tent is right across," He points at it.
"That is a little far away from Miss Jauregui," Mr. Chris Hemsworth speak.
"I will post two soldiers outside of the ladies' tent for protection," The Brigadier says.
The men hesitate but look at me and nod as they make their way to their tent.
The Brigadier smiles at us before walking away, yelling orders at his men.
Camila and I enter the tent as I close the curtains behind us.
"I guess this is as big as the tent will be," Camila says.
"The only tents that are bigger are the medical and the main where the soldiers huddle and plan," I said. I turn around and bite my lower lip. "What? You do not want to be in close quarters with me?" I question.
"No, it is not that, my love," Camila turns to me. She wraps her arms around my neck and brings our foreheads together. "If you desire to touch me... We have to make it quiet," Camila says.
