(A/N: Bit of Y/N alone time on this one o.o)
Seagulls were cawing in the distance. The evening air was cold, and the ocean winds made it even more so. Sloshing against the sides of the venture, the murky waters beat against the metal casing of the ship steadily. They only had one job, just to move. Everything else within it was much more complex, but the waters themselves were simple and carefree. Humans were somewhat jealous of that. Always have been. They can never have just one job- for it wouldn't satisfy their hunger for more. More out of life, out of others, out of love and relationships. They would never settle and be simple. Not like the waves, happy to house, and sometimes hide, the complexities of the oceans while simply just being. Well.. humans have one similarity with it I suppose. We are all one in the same, as each falling wave is to it's rising sibling. We all lie. It's in our blood like salt's in the sea. Lying comes far too naturally to us- to keep us from trouble and save our own skin. All it does it hurt and yet we can never refrain from letting the beast rear it's ugly head when it sees fit. You want an example? Well, sitting on these simple waters, there is a man. He lies and kills and hurts. Yet he feels little remorse. For he is saving his own skin, and protecting what he personally sees as worthy of his protection. His daughter feels differently, and she is not the only one.
Sarah stared open mouthed at Ward. The knife she was previously using to jimmy the door clattered to the ground behind her.
"It's me." Ward whispered.
Sarah stepped back, trying to take this in.
Ward started walking towards her slowly, saying, "Look I know this is impossible to you and I'm gunna explain-"
Sarah slapped him. Hard enough to make Ward's ears ring.
He stopped walking, "You're right, I'm sorry. I deserve that, I know I do. You have been through hell and I know it is my fault. I am sorry I am so, so sorry."
Sarah started walking to the window, as Ward followed her she hit his arm with her sleeve. Indicating she wanted him to stay behind.
"I'm so sorry Sarah." Ward said, his voice cracking with sadness.
Sarah sat down on her bed, eyes tearful. Whether this was out of anger or sadness she had no idea, a bit of both really.
"I can promise you." Ward put his hands together and slowly lowered himself to his knees, "I had no other choice I didn't. I don't expect you to understand that now all I can do is answer your questions-"
Wards incessant voice took over everything- as usual. He always made it so difficult to think... Sarah's brain was trying to make sense of everything while Ward's constant voice drilled into her skull and quite frankly made it impossible. She needed him to shut up, she wished he would just shut up. Sarah put her head in her hands.
"-Maybe you'll see it was the only way... I know you don't believe that and I know it's hard to hear.." Ward was back to whispering.
Sarah sat up, the look on her face saying 'are you fucking kidding me'.
"It was my only choice... It was the only way to make sure that... We were all safe. And together." He explained.
Sarah shook her head and sniffed.
"It was the only way to make our family whole again.. Hey, hey don't cry. You can have a new sister Sarah. Y/N. You like her don't you?"
She pushed him away gently. Sarah hadn't said a word- she had no way to get any out. She just wanted Ward gone.
Rafe was pacing the captains cab. He had left Y/N in his bed sleeping, to go and express his concerns about what happened while they were loading the ship. "All I'm saying is that there was an explosion in the shipyards, where'd that come from huh?"
The captain shook his head, this kid just wouldn't give up huh.
"I wouldn't put it past there assholes man." Rafe explained. "You don't know them. They might be on the ship."
The captain didn't believe him, but did really want him to go away.
"Listen... Why not make sure? What's it gunna hurt?" He glared at him.
The captain glared back, and picked up his radio, "Hey Mack."
'Yeah?' replied a man.
"I want you and the crew to check the ship for stowaways.' He told them.
"Thank you." Rafe sighed.
'Uh, Okay. But why?" Asked mack.
"You never know man. Just give her a once over, will you?"
'Copy that.' Mack nodded, turning to some crew mates to give out the new orders.
Y/N was fidgeting on the floor outside the door. On one hand, she had the key to open it. On the other, she had no where to go and no way of knowing the ships layout. However, Rose was going to be back any second with new meds for her...
Y/N breathed out, "Okay I guess we're doing this." She pushed the keys into the small door, and pulled it open slowly. Trying to be as quiet as possible. She needed to find somewhere to hide... The wooden door clicked shut behind her, and Y/N locked it. The first thing she did was try a bunch of the doors until she found a bathroom. Somewhere away from Rose and Rafe where she could gather her thoughts. JJ, John B, Kie, Pope. Her real family were probably miles away. With no idea where she or Sarah were. I mean, why would they know? She watched John B trip outside Rose's window while high as a kite. Y/N knew they wouldn't be here. She couldn't risk anything. For anyone. She and Sarah were on their own right now, so first step was finding out where she was. Further down the deck maybe... She wasn't sure how boats were set out so this was 100% a guess and probably a bad idea. But hey, bad ideas have good outcomes all the time! Right? She took a deep breath and opened the door, instantly was met with a "Hey!" and she yanked it shut again.
"Sorry!" Y/N said in a low voice. "My bad!"
"It's fine." Huffed someone in reply. She listened for their footsteps to fade and rushed from the bathroom down the hallway. Looking for any set of stairs she could find. Some stairs were just tucked away in a right hallway, so Y/N sprinted down them knowing that can't have been the last one. They lead her to a small door, on the other side of which was a balcony. The main deck. She had just closed the door behind her when she heard more footsteps. Sounded like two people. Fuck fuck fuck they were coming down the stairs. Y/N looked around for somewhere to hide, no way could anyone see her. But there was obviously no where to go...
Y/N eyed the banister. "That'll do." She grimaced.
Leaping over it and dangling herself over the icy water, Y/N lowered herself so she was gripping onto the lowest rung. Her clothes were getting wet as the water below splashed her playfully. Beckoning her in.
The two men walked past her, inches from her finger tips. Y/N's heart was racing so loudly she could've sworn they'd have heard it if only they'd stopped walking for a moment.
As her arms began to ache, her hand started to slip off of the wet rung.
She scrunched her face up as her fingertips clung to the bar, but it was no use. Her hand slipped off of it and she slammed into the side of the boat.
"Ah-" Y/N covered her mouth.
The footsteps stopped. "You hear that?" asked a man.
"Yeah..." He looked around. Could've been a bird?"
"Or one of the stowaways." Said the first one.
Stowaways? Shit. Just what Y/N needed, more people who would probably attack her the first chance they got.
The two men looked around and shrugged, seeing nothing to report. They moved on.
Y/N felt like her arm was about to burst out of it's socket as she heaved herself back onto the deck. Thank god the waves were only little. She went back inside, hoping the next place she went to was less cold.25 doors and 5 emergency hides later, Y/N was no closer to finding Sarah. The seemingly last door on the level she had found herself on was just some sort of changing room situation. Not what she wanted. "Damn it." She sighed, shutting the door and leaning her head against it. She then caught sight of a wooden door at the back of the hallway she hadn't checked. Jogging towards it past pipes and alarms, she pushed it open forcefully. This lead her towards another door. Weird. This one was white and had a red glow surrounding it. She pushed it open, and heard nothing but steam hissing and clanking sounds.
It was the boiler room? Maybe. It was warm at least, and Y/N smiled.
"Fucking shit heap!" Shouted a girl. "Shitty crew too! Making me do this shitting job all on my shitting own! Arggh!" She was standing next to a side-turned cylinder that looked like it was about to explode. Her black hair tied up in a plait on her back. She wore a grey/green hat and a black vest- a shirt in her hand.
Y/N jumped out of her damn skin, but something in that voice compelled her to stay.
"Stupid fucking thing. Too damn old is what it is!" She grunted again.
Y/N stepped back, and felt something sting her arm. It was cold- wait... wait no it was hot! It was really really hot! She leapt into the air like a cat who'd seen a cucumber.
The girl span around, "Who's there!?"
Y/N looked up, ready for a fight.
The girl squinted in the red lights, "...Girlie that you?"
Y/N's face softened, that's why she knew the voice! "Cleo."
