Impossible to Love {Ki Hong Lee}

Chapter 3

"Oh my God!" I gasp as I look at her pale face "Ki!"
"We need to get her outta here. Come on."

I scoop my little sister up,hands under her knees and on her back as we walk out and sit down in the Car Park.

"Call an ambulance now!" I snap as Ki starts to dial.

I sit with her,feeling myself start to shake. She looks beyond dead but I can still feel her heart beating at a steady pace. Once Ki's done he sits down beside me,I grab my jacket and wrap it over her,she's only wearing some boots,tights and a short silver dress then a manifesto of necklaces and bracelets.

"This is all my fault." I say.
"No it isn't. It's mine."
"My parents are actually going to shoot me dead."
"They don't have to find out,we'll get her safe home."
"Are you sure we can do that?"
"Positive."

Once the ambulance comes she's loaded in as we sit beside her,she still doesn't move. Maybe she wants to be like that,permanently sleeping. Never to wake up. I can't blame her if I'm honest.

They take her to a Hospital room,Ki sits in the waiting room as I wait in that room,looking at all the Doctors and nurses. Watching her as she lies there in a peaceful slumber.

"She's okay right?" I ask the Nurse.
"Yes,just in extreme shock. We need to keep her here for a little longer."
"What happened before the accident?"
"That we haven't figured out yet.. Can you tell me her name?"
"Tiffany Sangster. I'm her brother."
"Okay,thank you." She scribbles it down on a clipboard "You can sit with her if you would like,just don't touch or be too loud."
"Okay,thank you."

I sit on a chair next to the bed in the cold empty room.

"Promise me you won't tell mum and dad?"

No response.

"Why don't you speak? Come on,just answer me that."
"Is she okay?" Ki comes through the door and sits beside me.
"She'll be okay."
"You can cry if you want Tom. You don't have to hold it in."
"I'm not crying."
"She loves you you know. It's so obvious."
"How?"
"You can tell.sometimes people hide all their emotions. That's just the way it is. You know?"
"No I don't. She wouldn't be like that,she never would."
"Time changes everyone Tom."
"Not like this."

After then her eyes flutter open,then open wide as they see mine. She scurries up then just sits there,looking at me. I press a button to alert the medics which then come in.

"You feeling any better love?" A nurse asks.
"Oh,no,she doesn't talk." I answer for her.
"Why not?"
"It's been like that forever. No idea why."
"Well she's doing better,more stable than before."
"Can I take her home?"
"Not just yet."

I notice my phones ringing so I check to see it's my mum.

"Fuck!" I snap before I answer it.

"Hi mum."
"Where's Tiffany?"
"Out."
"Out where?"
"With me and Ki."
"Oh right,good. Well,be back safe. I've actually got some news to tell you."
"What news?"
"I'll tell you later."
"No,tell me now."
"Tomorrow me and your father are going on a conference,all expenses payed. Three weeks."
"What am I supposed to do,you know I have exams soon?"
"Yes. I'm sorry sweetie."
"Fine."
"See you soon darling,I'll leave a note."
"Okay."
"Bye."
"Bye."

I hang up the phone then turn to Tiffany,she looks at me with a face saying 'I want to get outta here'

"I need to get her home now." I tell the nurse.
"She needs these."

She hands her some medication and she takes them before slipping out of the bed,still in hospital dressing. Her clothes are on the bed table which she grabs then walks out with,locking herself in a room for a few minutes to get dressed then walking back out. We call a Taxi,drop Ki home then pay the driver as we arrive at our house and I open the door with my key.

"Mum and dad are going away for three weeks." I say as she walks up the stairs saying nothing.
"You know you could give me a little respect. I did save your life tonight!"

The door slams a little while later and I pad up the stairs to my own room,ignoring my revision for the night,stripping down to only my underwear then falling asleep as soon as I hit the bed. She wasn't grateful,because she didn't want to be saved by anyone.
