“30 minutes to the meeting time,” I said. I was still pondering who could’ve sent me that message. Could it be a trick? Or was it an ally? In my thinking, I hadn’t realized that Jack was talking to me. “Hey Evergreen, are you listening to me?” Jack questioned. “Oh sorry, I must’ve zoned out. What were you saying?” I asked. “I feel like this is a trap,” he said with a worried expression. I walked over to the couch he was sitting on in our room and sat down next to him. I started to stroke his hair to comfort him. “Don’t worry Jack, even if something does happen, I’ll be there to protect you,” I said, smiling. Jack's expression relaxed, and became more confident. “Thank you Evergreen.” We continued to sit like this, just enjoying each other’s company. I felt Jack relax as laid against me, and I started to feel warm inside. We’ve been so busy that we haven’t been able to just relax with each other. ‘Maybe once this is over we can go back home,’ I thought. ‘In the meantime though, I’ll just enjoy this.’ I could feel my tail starting to wag a bit, and I swear I saw Jack blushing.
Once there was about 10 minutes to the meeting time, we got up and started to make our way over to the meeting spot. We walked through the long, but surprisingly nice hallways, and into the first floor courtyard. This seemed to be some sort of indoor area, maybe the 2nd floor courtyard was outside? “Hey Jack, how do you reckon we get upstairs to the 2nd floor?” I asked. He looked around, and spotted something in the distance. He started walking towards a set of staircases and I followed suit. We walked up and found ourselves not at the courtyard, but at an open area, with just one terminal in the middle of the room. “Uh, this doesn’t look like a courtyard,” I said. “You would be correct in your assumption buddy,” Jack responded. I walked over to the terminal and hovered my paw over it, contemplating whether to touch the screen or not. ‘Maybe it’s just broken and it won’t turn on?’ I questioned in my head. Before I could make a decision though, Jack came over and touched the screen. I stepped back in preparation for anything that could happen.
...Nothing has happened yet? I looked back confused, and saw that text had appeared on the screen. “Hello, if you are looking for the courtyard, follow the arrows on the floor to the left of this terminal, -G”. G? Was that an initial for something? “Who is G?” Jack asked, pondering. “Maybe it’s Germia?” I said. “I thought he left when we were dropped off or whatever,” he said. I shrugged. We stopped thinking about it and started our way on following the arrows.
After a while of walking the desolate hallways, the arrows stopped at a room guarded by a 7 digit passcode lock. “ROOM 402” This was the correct room, but why the lock? “Do you know the password,” he asked. I thought back to the message I received. “Password, Change. You know, I was expecting some sort of metal door where we verbally say the password but I guess not,” I said jokingly. “Yeah, same here, but I guess this is less obvious,” he replied. “Hey, are there letters on the keypad?” I questioned. Jack, who seemed to be deep in thought, probably due to his lack of reaction when I asked him the question, did not answer. A smile appeared on my face. I whacked him with my tail, gently of course. This seemed to get my desired reaction. “Huh, what? What was that for?” he said, slightly annoyed. “Answer my riddle and I will provide you what you seek,” I said with a deep, joking voice. Jack’s expression relaxed a little. “What is your riddle, Oh Great Green One?” he said back. “Are there letters on the keypad?” I said. His expression turned to a confused look. “That’s not a riddle,” he said. I looked at him then at the keypad. “Oh, sorry, yeah there is,” he said. I looked at the keypad and thought about the password. ‘Hmmm, maybe the password is ‘Change’ in number form?’ I thought. I typed out the password.

Well that seemed to work. I opened the door and walked inside, Jack followed in. Once we were both in, the door shut behind us. I jumped. Suddenly, the lights turned on and I was met face to face with a gun barrel. “Calm down, they’re here to meet me,” said a voice. ‘Wait, I recognize that voice.’ The guard lowered the gun and walked back near the door, and I could see Germia sitting at a seat next to a table which looked to be filled with papers and other miscellaneous items. “Come, sit,” he beckoned. We walked over and sat down on the couch opposite of where Germia was sitting. Germia opened his mouth to speak, but before he could, he was cut off by Jack. “You know, that terminal doesn’t seem very secure,” Jack said. “Don’t worry about that, it only turned on because it sensed that either of you touched it,” answered Germia. “How?” I asked. “Don’t ask me, I don’t have a clue,” he laughed. “Anyway, you are probably both wondering why I summoned you here today.” We both nodded. “Well, first off, I know you are working for the Revolt, or revolution, or whatever you guys are calling it,” he said. Me and Jack looked at each other with surprised faces. “Yes, I saw you on the camera with a list of “Objectives” and connected the dots,” he continued. “Are you going to report us?” asked Jack with a scared tone. “No, and you may not believe me, but I am here to help you,” he answered. Now I was even more confused. Doesn’t this guy work for the GMC? “Yes, I do work for the GMC, but I have always been against the practices and policies they have for the people working down here. They have never cared about the people, it was always about the money.” Did he read my mind? No, that was probably just a coincidence. “I do hope you guys can trust me, because I really do want to help. This will show the conditions you guys are in, and will project our voice louder and longer than anything I’ve tried,” he finished.
I brought Jack closer so I could whisper something to him. “Do you trust him? He seems sincere but how do we know he won’t just backstab us?” I asked. “Maybe he will give us some information or something?” Jack replied. “Do you trust me?” asked Germia. “We trust you,” Jack responded. “Good, in that case, here is something I’d like to give you,” he said. He handed Jack a strange looking storage device. “That’s called an ESD, or External Stick Drive. It has building plans, guard patrols, high clearance keycards, everything you might need,” he said. We looked at each other in bewilderment. “If that is all, do make your way back to your room, it is getting late and you don’t want to be found outside at late hours.” He rushed us out of the room, but before he closed the door, he waved goodbye to us. “Goodbye, my friends.”
Once we got back to our room, we sat down on our bed. “What should we do Evergreen?” asked Jack. “We need to get this to Vitrex, and begin what was once prophesied!” I said jokingly. “Nice one, but it’s late, and we are going to have a big day tomorrow. Let’s get some rest,” he said. “Good point, goodnight,” I said. “Goodnight.” I thought about the power this device holds for the Revolt, and about Germia. This whole situation was just crazy. And it was about to get a whole lot crazier.
