I was busy packin up our supplies when, I heard hooves comin towards the camp. It was Jack, and he didn't look to pleased about somethin. He got off his horse in a hurry and walked right passed me not sayin a thing till he bent down to grab some stuff.(Jack) "It looks like our little vacation was cut short". (Me) "what do you mean?". (Jack) "I mean that Joe wants us to come back early. He says there's a storm comin, worse than the last one". (Me) "But don't that mean we won't get our full pay?". (Jack) "..yeah..". Now I was pissed off. We had been workin our asses off over the past few weeks, then the "big man" just says to stop and pack up in the middle of it.
I walked off angrly mumbling somethings I wouldn't say out loud, and kickin a bucket that was in my way. (Me) "..fine.."
I sat up on a steep hill top and stared out into the distance. Apart of me was gonna miss this. Not for the work of course but for the calm and peaceful plain that we had the liberty to work in. As I sat there, Jack was walkin up to me with a rope in hand. He swung it and flung it around me.
(Jack) "Time to get goin cowboy". I took the rope off me and headed towards the camp when suddenly Jack had caught my leg with the same rope and I fell over. (Me) "This aint no rodeo, cowboy". I pulled him towards me usin the rope till he fell on top of me. We then started rollin down the hill and at first it was just a bit a fun, but it then got really physical and in the moment, Jack socked me in the face.
I got up bruised and dizzy with blood streamin down my nose and on to Jacks sleeve. He held me there tryin to see if I was ok but then I hit him back hard knocking him to the ground. I got up and walked away still bloody while Jack tried to collect himself.

We met with the other ranchers to go transport the sheep. Joe stood right next to me and Jack. As they were bein herded, he said, (Joe) "some of these didn't go up there with you. Man I give you one job and you two can't even do that...idiots".
He walked off frustrated with our mistake but in truth there was no way we could've kept all of same cattle that we originally had. The first storm that we has to deal with, cost us a bunch of sheep. In the thick of it, apparently our sheep got mixed with another herders flock. And what was, worse was most of their marks had warn off cuz of the storm.
We were standin near Jacks truck and I was checkin the hood tryin to get it to start when you finally heard the hum of the engine go off and it ran smoothly. I closed the hood and grabbed my bag holdin some personal items and leaned against Jacks truck as he got out.
(Me) "Can't believe I left my damn shirt up there".(Jack) "yeah...you gonna do this again next summer?". (Me) "well, probably not. Like I said, me and Alma are gettin married in November, so uh I'll tey to get somethin on the ranch I guess. You?" (Jack) "I might go up to my daddys place and give him a hand through the winter. I might be back..if the army don't get me".(Me) "..well I guess I'll see you around". (Jack) "..right".
I then grabbed my bag and walked off. I saw Jack pass me by and drive away. As I was walkin though, a sick feeling spurred inside me. I started to feel nauseous and stopped over by a small alley. I took off my hat and bent down waitin to upchuck whatever was gonna come out, but nothin did. I sat there tryin cough up somethin but again, nothin happened.
As I was strugglin, a passersby stopped and just stared at me like and idiot. (Me) "What the fuck are you lookin at, huh!",I yelled at him. He thrn walked away. I was left there clutchin my chest, feelin completely broken amd I hadn't got a clue why. Whatever had happened to me after that night with Jack, changed me in ways I would never understand.
