The group felt that the best idea was to check what was making the noise. As the uncertain thudding noise was rather spooky. Together they headed up the staircase, the noise grew louder and clearer but thankfully as they stood on the landing they were able to make out where the tapping was coming from.
At the end of the hallway was a fancy window which had to be hundred's of years old. The problem was simply that it had been propped open to let in air and hadn't been shut properly after. A quick fix. one tug on the handle to bring in the frame and the noise vanished.
