Although the likelihood of him going back down the stairs without alerting Amy, Morgan or Nelson was very unlikely, it wasn't entirely out of the realm of possibility. Since they were in conversation, it's probable that no one heard him go down the steps, after all he was eight. He wasn't pounding down, his footsteps were near silent.

"Maybe he's just as confused as we are?" Amy interjected.

The teens nodded to appease her but weren't that convinced.

"Might have gone back to the table or something," Nelson suggested.

Heading down the stairs, Amy went first. Followed by Nelson. Morgan at the rear.

The group had only taken a few steps down when a wooden crack noise came from the middle of the stairs. Right underneath Amy's feet.

"Did you hear that?" She trembled.

The three stood still in their tracks. A tree branch folding in on itself. The noise came again but clearer. The ground beneath them shifted. Each tried to grab hold of the railing but Amy's arms weren't long enough.

The step beneath her gave way. Cracking at the joints. Nelson, on the step above, jumped back in shock, clocking Morgan around the face.

Falling down the hole that opened, Amy screamed for help. A thud sound when she hit the bottom. It wasn't that deep. But it was still a shock.

Coming to the edge of the breakage. Nelson muttered to himself, "How unsafe is this place if something like that can happen?"

"Help!" Amy cried "it's scary down here"

"Don't worry" Nelson reassured her, "we'll get you out"

He turned to Morgan guiding the statement with his eyes:

A. "I'll go down, you stay here to pull us up" (go to page 30)

B. "It's best if we both go down there" (go to page 27)

C. "It's not worth all three of us getting stuck down there!" (go to page 25)
