"Hahaha. Eric tell it again!"
Natalia was so beautiful the way her hair flowed from the wind on the train and the way her big glossy lips said my name.
"Alright. Knock knock."
"Who's th-?" She was cut off by someone yelling her name at the back of the train.
"I'll be right back," she said looking confused.
"Ok," I whispered as I watched her walk off to the back. A couple minutes later she made her way back to me, but before either of us could say a word she was tripped by that asshole, Cory. I tried to reach for her but she was out of the train in the blink of an eye. Everyone looked at me like I did it. I jumped out after her but only found an extremely bloody Natalia. I could see she was on the verge of death but she looked at me in horror and said, "This is your fault Eric. You pushed me and let me fall under the train. You are the reason I'm going to die. You let me die." She kept chanting the last sentence as I pleaded her to believe me I didn't do it. I pleaded for her to stay.
I woke up drenched in sweat. I sighed deeply, remembering the horrific night. I missed her. I wanted her back. Her laugh. Her smile. Her craziness. She was perfect but I will never get to tell her that now that she's gone and I hate myself for that. I never told her how I felt about her.
I was still laying in my hot, sticky, and sweaty clothes so I got up to shower. Boy did it feel good to have the hot water hit my skin. I took a nice long shower, scrubbing every inch of my body, washing away all my feelings and emotions. Ever since that night I've built up these walls around myself. I promised myself I would never let that happen to me again and to do that, I just had to let nobody into my life. I didn't want that pain back. Besides, today is the Choosing Ceremony so I have to put on my leader face and hope we get semi good initiates this year.
I made my way to the cafeteria, although I wasn't very hungry, I still had to talk to Max about today.
"Good morning, Eric," said Max.
"Morning Max," I sighed.
"What? Your not looking forward to the new initiates?" He asked obviously with a load of sarcasm.
"Right. Because everybody wants to hang out with a bunch of wannabe sixteen year olds." I said back.
"Ya and you know what sucks even more? Is that you get stuck overseeing the transfers!" Lauren piped in. I glared at her. Lauren was a Dauntless born initiate trainer. She was probably one of the only girls in my life I could handle. She wasn't girly and I wasn't attracted to her. She is basically a sister to me.
"Thanks. Now I know who I can count on to cheer me up," I sighed again, picking at the eggs on my plate.
"Oh come on! You don't need me to cheer you up! You are always happy with a side of rainbows and smiles," she said so sarcastically I'm not even sure if she was being sarcastic.
"Alright you sarcastic little bitch. Just because good ol' Andy screwed you last night, does not mean you can come here and spray your nasty ass happiness on anyone you want," I snapped at her and she immediately turned red and shot me a glare. I loved calling her out especially when it had to do with her boyfriend.
"You leave Andrew out of this," she paused so I knew there was more. Why did there always have to be more? Her voice was hushed though so I was getting a little nervous, " and just because you refuse to let anyone even close to you, doesn't mean I can't, Mr. Crankypants."
Jesus I have had enough of her. I slammed my silverware down on the table and the whole cafeteria got quite. But before I could say anything Max decided to finally pipe up again and nudge us both, making us stop the staring war we had going on. "That's enough you two. Lauren finish eating and go set things up with Four. Eric, you look like you're finished so let's go. The initiates should be arriving soon."
Max and I walked up to the top of the compound in silence. When we got to the top he finally spoke, "When the initiates get here, I'll give my little speech and then you take over as if you are the only one here. I want to see how you handle the situation. Then after your speech you let them jump." Oh great. I could hear the train in the distance so I nodded to Max and hopped up on the ledge of the building, hoping to look a little more intimidating, if that's even possible.
The train flew by and one, two. Three. Four. Five, six, seven. Eight. Nine, ten, eleven. Twelve, thirteen, fourteen. Fifteen. Sixteen. Sixteen sweaty bodies jumped out of the train and I smirked knowing only 10 of them will pass, thanks to the new rules.
"Hello initiates. I'm Max. I'm one of the leaders here at Dauntless," Max turned to me. That's it? That's his speech? That was the shittiest speech I've ever heard. "Alright listen up!" I shouted hoping to be very intimidating. "I'm also a leader here at Dauntless. The names Eric. There's only one way to get into Dauntless and that's through here." I said pointing to the giant whole in the ground. "Who's gonna go first?"
They all shook with fear and an Erudite piped up, "Is there something down there to catch us," he asked.
"I don't know," I shrugged. "You'll just have to find out. Or not," I smirked jumping off the ledge back onto the roof.
"Someone's gotta go first! Now who's it gonna be!?" I asked walking through the crowd, getting impatient now. Finally a dauntless born boy walked up.
"Well its about time!" I shouted. The boy stepped on the ledge, looked down and jumped like he'd done it a million times.
"Alright anybody want to volunteer?" I waited a second to see. "No? Ok so I get to pick. Let's see," I got up on my tiptoes and pointed to a candor. "You!" He looked at me like I was crazy but eventually stepped up to the ledge and jumped screaming like a girl.*******************************
After everybody jumped it was just Max and I left.
"Nice job, Eric. I'm looking forward to your leadership here at Dauntless."
"Thank you Max," I nodded at him before he jumped. I waited 45 seconds and stepped up to the ledge. I remember coming here during initiation a lot. After Natalia died, nobody wanted to be around me so I came here almost every night after training and ate dinner up here. I used to look at the sky and wonder which star was Natalia. I always picked the brightest and the twinkliest star for her. Then, at the end of the night, I jumped on the ledge, a small piece of me hoping she'd be at the bottom of the fall when I landed but every time I was only met with a net. I did the same thing this time. I squeezed my eyes shut and imagined Natalia and her beautiful brown eyes and long wavy brown hair, laughing at the same corny joke I told her everyday just to hear her laugh. And then. I jumped.Hey guys!! This is my very first book I've written ever and I hope you like it! It gets more interesting I swear I just thought I'd write what I wanted because I always read Eric fanfictions but they always have something I don't like about them so I'm writing this. I will be posting a lot the next few weeks considering I don't have any plans other than school but my basketball season will start up so the updates may slow down a little but I will try my hardest. I am also debating on whether or not there will be a war. I don't want there to be but if it goes with my story line later on, then I'll add it in. Please let me know what you think!
