Mia Duncan's POV
"Look, detective, it was all self-defense. I wasn't killing them. I was defending myself from being raped," I explained to him as he was pushing me onto his car to handcuff me from behind. He grabbed me by the hair as his mouth was near my ear.
"Tell that to the judge," he said before shoving me into the back seat of the car carefully so that my head will not hit the roof of the car.
"Where are we going? Please don't tell me we are going back to the station," I pleaded.
"We're not," he said and I was relieved for a little before he continued, "We will be going to a higher station," he said and I can feel that blood draining from my face.
"Wait, for what? I did not do anything wrong!" I said to him as I was sending a dagger with my eyes through the rearview mirror. His green orbs were looking at me before he turned around. My stomach fluttery as I can see his beautiful face was in my direction but his cold stare can send someone to oblivion.
"You think you can get away, Ms. Duncan? Well, what do you know, you can never escape justice," he said with so much hatred that I can feel frost forming in the backseat of this detective's car. He turned on the ignition of his car and sped off in the busy traffic of Edinburgh.
I was looking outside the dispatch car as I was looking at the people who were walking down the streets with happy faces and have nothing to care about the world. I was so into their emotion that I did not feel what I was supposed to feel.
Love, emotions, feelings, needs—the desire that's what's made us human. But no, I was no human, I was a monster. I did not have a heart for the work that I did. If I did, I would be long gone and will not live past the extreme training back on the island.
"We're here," the detective said as he was getting out of the driver's seat. I was waiting for him to open the door for me as I was handcuffed. He opened the door and I got out of his car as he was dragging me with him.
This should be interesting as I was sure my records were clean. He made sure of that. I made sure of that. I just hoped they don't find some dirty secrets from someplace else.
We were climbing up the stairs as other police officers, especially women, were giggling at the sight of Detective Hunt. His face was hard and cold which can chill you down to the bone. I rolled my eyes at their behavior as to how would they find this jerk attractive at all.
We went inside the lobby and Hunt was registering himself at the receptionist. He was one of the top police officers in Edinburgh. I was looking around the station to find my way out as soon as possible if things went bad.
Then, I saw a familiar sight across the lobby of the police station. She was wearing thick glasses with a dark frame, hair covering her face, plain clothing, and just trying to be invisible in the police station.
Her eyes and mine were making eye contact and she made the secret sign language that I knew she was from one of my organizations. I nodded at her as she nodded at me and went back into her office.
She was in the IT department of the regional police station in Edinburgh. These must be my client's idea. I smirked at the thought of getting out of here innocent twice in one day.
"What are you smirking about?" Liam said as he was looking at me sternly. I cleared my throat before looking at him.
"Nothing that would concern you now, isn't it?" I said before I looked away from his face, feeling disgusted with the way that he was talking to me. He pulled my arm so that I can sense it will bruise in the morning.
