Mate

The next few days flew by while Jasmine practiced her reading in my room and I worked on my previously unfinished assignment. There were barely a few pages remaining, and I finished it all that day, at the same time Jasmine finished her book.

"I'm finished! Please send me the next book "She gave the instruction from her stomach-down position in bed. She had already read more than half of my childhood story books after only three days. It's hard to believe she couldn't even write her own name just three days ago.

"Can't. We need to get ready for supper, "While Jasmine stared at me, I reminded her as I walked to my closet to get some acceptable clothes.

I'm not sure when Jasmine left the room, but she returned shortly after wearing a blue dress and sneakers. With some jeans and boots, I was able to put together a nice outfit. Because our hair hung loosely down our backs, it appeared like Jasmine and I had the same hairstyle idea.

I headed straight to my place in the dining hall downstairs with Jasmine following close behind. A few members of the group raised their heads from their meals to greet me before engaging in small talk with the person seated next to them.

Jasmine was apprehensive about attending dinner after learning that the entire pack would be present. Plus, she and I used to skip dinner and sneak down to the kitchen after everyone had gone to bed to steal some chocolate puffs. She peered warily between me and her empty seat across the hall as I sat down. They sat us far apart, to be sure.

My parents, Tyler, the beta's family, and the gamma's were sat at the main table with me. There were a couple empty seats at our table, so I grabbed Jasmine and sat her in the empty seat next to me. She smiled, but my father had a puzzled expression on his face that I didn't seem to mind.

Dinner went fine, and Jasmine's presence really helped because she'd ask random things that kept me diverted from my family's 'pack talk.' Everything was okay until our visitors arrived. I had three people hold me back as soon as I saw his face: my father, Tyler, and James.

I might put up with him at school, but there is no way in hell I'm letting him into my home.

I slouched in my seat after Mom gave me a glance. He appeared to be as astonished as I was to find him here. He sat across from me with his father and what I assumed were the beta and gamma. Others sat down close to them, which I couldn't identify, while the others stood back against the wall at the entrance.

The older man spoke up and said, "Thank you for having us for supper." I could only hope their personalities were radically different because he looked a lot like his son. Or well, his son looked a lot like him.

Jasmine kicked me beneath the table as I was zoned out. I glared angrily at her, but she just shrugged and pointed to the entrance, where the omegas were bringing in dessert plates. The dessert was my favorite part of the meal. I joyfully clapped my hands as the dessert was placed in front of me, and I instantly opened it to find a slice of cheesecake. I could have been in a coma for a thousand years, because my mother never offered cheesecake for dessert because of her allergy, and we didn't particularly enjoy it.

I cast a glance over at her, who was engrossed in the cake slice on her plate. She steered clear of me as she looked up to strike up a conversation with our visitors. This was getting to be too much for me, so when I bent over to tell Jasmine that we should get out of here and get some chocolate puffs instead, she didn't hesitate to pretend to be sick.
