Life is a prison we try to escape,
But there is only one sure way.
Darkness unknown beyond the cage
Is what keeps us at bay.
Clawing and pleading to linger safe,
Vigilance and worry hold sway.
Reparations for unnamed freight
Become too heavy to weigh,
Yet temptations to break the chains
Are halted by sentinel behests to stay.
And we are but caged dreamers
Waiting for nightmares to slip away.
