Felix lays with me on his bed, cuddling my side. It's been awhile since we've been able to do this. I've missed him a lot, even if we talk every week.
"Are you okay, Sung?"
"As okay as I can be."
Jeongin was out in the living room. I wasn't sure what he was doing. Everyone else was somewhere unknown. I hadn't explained what the man said to me. I didn't tell them that he told me I should be dead.
"Did that man say anything to you?"
"Lots."
"Like what? Why is he after you?"
"He's not after me. He's after our loves because they're immortal."
"Do you know why?"
"Not a clue."
We take a moment to ourselves, laying in the darkness. His curtains were closed, but I could still hear the wind whispering outside.
"Where is he? Is he okay?" I hear from the front room of the apartment.
Loud footsteps, two pairs of them. The door bursts open, Chan standing in the doorway with Hyunjin behind him. Chan's eyes widen as he turns on the light and rushes to my side.
"Oh, god. Are you okay? What happened? Was it his dad? What did he do? How did this happen? I'm so sorry-"
"Puppy," I say calmly, leaning up and cupping his cheeks. "Breathe. I'm okay."
Felix gets out of the bed. pulling Hyunjin along to give us space. Chan gazes into my eyes, looking for reassurance. I nod at him, pulling a smile on.
"Tell me what happened."
-
"He told me I should be dead. That venom kills especially when given twice. Why did he say that? He said you guys turned me, that's why I'm still alive. I don't understand."
I stare down at my trembling hands. Now that I was in just his presence, I could release my emotions. The emotions of fear and anxiety.
"I... I don't know. I've never heard of that. Then again, I've never met any demons that have two partners, one of which that is also a demon. I know our venom doesn't kill, but technically, we didn't put it in you. Not a lot, anyway. Just enough to connect us. He has his facts wrong. I wouldn't doubt it, he's a human."
"You're not wrong. It just... I don't know. When holy water touches you, what happens?"
"Our skin burns up like paper. We can heal from it after a few minutes. It won't exactly kill us. Smoke rises from our skin, though, proving how much it can really damage us."
"What exactly happened to Minho when he drank it? Could it really mess you up?"
"It could, but physically, you'll heal. It's just... that kind of pain scars someone mentally."
I look up at him, my lip trembling. My poor Minho. I felt so sorry. I feel so scared for him. To go through that, unaware that the bet was completely unfair.
A tiny knock sounds on the door. Chan stands, opening it. Changbin pushes through, carrying Minho on his back. I'm quick to stand and help lay him down on the bed.
"What did that monster do to you?" I question, watching his eyes float around the room.
"To be honest, I don't think anything. When Minho was chasing him, he tried to jump in front of him by using teleportation. He was collapsed by the time I could reach him. He's still so, so weak. I... I didn't know it was going to have an affect for this long."
I sigh, petting down Minho's hair. He knew better, but his emotions got in the way.
"Thank you for getting him."
