The only way to survive is to break the Chain.
The chain in which Alia is caught right now. Alia- an archaeological student who ended up as the Queen of people's choice.
A normal student with attachment and trust issues, who doesn't give a shit ab...
We were ready to go on the search mission for Alia, Shanaya and Sharuk.. Uncle Zain looks ghastly and devastated. I wish this doesn't break the bond between two best friends even though no one's at fault. I made sure; we had all the tools and supplies if we were to return only by night. Some tin cans of food and 2 bottles of water for each of them. Zoya, Dashk and Rudra landed this morning, and they were so worried when we filled in them with what was happening. Uncle asked us not to let our parents know before we do one last search and officially declared them missing- to file a missing person report on all three of them, if we don't find them by this today's nightfall.
"Zoya, are you sure about carrying the cans?"
"Yes, Aditi. I'm pretty sure. They are just food cans."
"So, how has everything been in there? Back in India?"
"Yea, things are very good and smooth. But something might happen just because I said it right now. Bad omen"
"Haha-hey do you remember the times where we used to hang a ruined Barbie doll with dirt all over her in front of Neeta's dorm?"
"Yesss....the first time we did that, she almost died out of heart attack-damn"
"That was not the best pranks...."
And we kept talking about the hostel days which we missed after our graduation. They sure are the best times of the college life. With a deep sigh , we got up and moved towards Mr.Kai's tent where the bags were kept. It was around 8 in the morning where the sun just came up. It's different in here- the sunshine- not as hard as it is in India, but more like a soothing one.
"Guys, everything is ready. Where is uncle Zain and Mr. Kai?"
I asked, when I didn't see them in the tent.
"Yea, they just said-they'll be back in about few minutes."-Dashk replied hastily.
"Dhask ? Are you afraid or something? Nervous maybe?"
"No, why would I be?" He asked, as he kept tapping his foot on a slow rhythm.
"Because of your leg." I motioned towards it.
"Oh."
"People! It's time to go!"-Came in Uncle Zain and Kai.
We kept going on and on into the pass; it seemed endless. The sun was almost on top of our heads as the dry sands danced with the winds that gushed past us in the north-eastern direction. The day wasn't the best and neither the worst, just another normal day with the quest to find our friends.
After walking for about an hour, we found something. It was strange, like some small, half-cut pillars sticking out of the ground. They weren't in a uniform manner, either. Some were broken and some were just sticking together just for the sake of it. I saw the photo they posted in their Instagram accounts to check for conformation.
"I think this is it. We're here."
I showed them the picture they posted on Instagram the day before they disappeared.
"But we can clearly see everything down there, just from here. If they would've been stuck in here- then we should be able to see them from the top. But I don't see anyone, nor any bags or footprints for that matter." Rudra said, after inspecting the place from the top angle.
It's true. The place looks like a cubicle with an uneven surface and some pillars sticking up from ground. The way stone has been placed on the ground seems like they were meant to separate two things and make space. But my question is, how come none if the people discovered this place yet, when it's been the same for centuries together. What is wrong with this place?
As I saw the pit in front of me, my stomach felt like it was twisting inside like someone was manually trying to twist them.
"Maybe, we should go down and take a look by ourselves." Aadhil suggested.
"What? Are you in-" Kai interrupted Aditi.
"I'll go."
"No one is going down there. We don't know what happened to our kids yet."
Uncle Zain was tensed and furious. Of course he'll be. I'm feel bad for him- he has got to answer to Alia's and Shanaya's parents if we don't get them back by tonight.
"I think there's no one in here. Look at the empty spaces- like Rudra said, if any of them were down, we would've seen them. So, I guess this photo must've been taken before they went missing."
He concluded.
"So, let's keep going ahead in the same direction. Maybe we'll find them soon enough."
Kai instructed us and moved ahead, past it. We followed him along the path, when he went around the pit.
That's when I saw something.
A shiny metal that glistened under the sun's rays. I thought it was Alia's ring and went close to look at them and then found it wasn't her ring-but a pendant.
I took the pendant and scrutinized it. There was a gem embedded in the centre that got dull with time and small stones that decorated the gem around the center. It was then that I noticed Dashk and Rudra hung back when they saw me standing in the place where I found the pendent.
"What is it Zoya?"
"Guys, I think, I found something." They came jogging towards me to take a look at the pendant.
Kai turned to look at us and motioned us to keep up with them.
"SIR! I FOUND SOMETHING!" I waved it in the air after screaming at the top of my lungs. They turned back and made their way to us as Rudra, Dashk and I were taking a closer look at the pendant. That's when I heard the sound. A constant ringing noise- a buzz that kept increasing.
And then everything collapsed.
