My heart was pounding in my chest, it was too early to lose him. Alejandro had taken me back to the penthouse where he said Xander was. I tapped my foot impatiently in the elevator, the doors seemed like they were taking an eternity to open. As soon as they opened I rushed forward.
"Wh- where is he?" I asked him.
"In his bedroom, I'm going to make a phone call," Alejandro walked off.
How could he be so calm? Was this something that happened all the time? I tried to calm myself down as I stood in front of the door, I didn't want to be a crying mess when he saw me.
I knocked on the door lightly.
"Ven."
I went inside and softly closed the door behind me. He was on the bed, shirtless with his left shoulder bandaged and put in a sling.
"Hey," he smiled softly at me.
I walked carefully to the edge of the bed unsure of whether I should touch him or not.
"Hi."
"Ven," he said patting the space beside him, "I'm not as fragile as I look, baby."
I put my shoes by the door and climbed onto the bed, "How did this happen?"
"Seth," he looked at me sternly.
I knew it wouldn't make a difference in knowing who had done it but I still wanted to know. I carefully put my arm across his toned stomach and nestled into his side.
"I was worried that you were-"
"Never, amor, I won't leave you," he said pressing a kiss to my temple.
"Is there anything that I can do?"
"Being here with me is more than enough."
"How will you do swimming or work in the hospital?"
His slender fingers brushed my hair out of my face, "I might have to give up some things Seth."
I sat up quickly, "W-what do you mean?"
"The cartel has-"
That fucking phone, if I didn't know better I'd say it had preference over me.
He answered quickly, "Padre."
I felt my body tense, I had never heard anything about Alexander's father apart from his occupation. His brows furrowed and he spoke aggressively in Spanish, whatever this was couldn't be good. I didn't want him getting hurt again but there was nothing I could do about it, I could only be less of a burden by agreeing to his methods of keeping me safe.
"Mañana," he said exasperatedly.
I looked at him expectantly, maybe he would tell me something this time around. He stared at the wall with a blank expression on his face before turning to me.
