"Go! Go!" You ushered a family falling behind the others.
"Get to the escape pods!" Jinbei directed the citizens where to go.
"Jinbei-chin! [Y/n]-chin!" Camie rushed toward the two of you, out of breath and with Pappag on her shoulder.
"What is it?" Jinbei inquired with concern.
"It's Hatchan," Pappag spoke for Camie, who was still catching her breath. "He got trapped under these big chunks of rock that fell from the buildings and we can't get him out of there."
"Let's go, we don't have much time left," you stated, sharing a glance with Jinbei.
"Lead the way," Jinbei gestured for Camie to show you guys where to go.
"Right," she nodded then started running.
"Pappag, direct the citizens to the escape pods!" you ordered him, following behind Camie and Jinbei.
The people of Atlantis needed to get out of here. In less than an hour, the island was going to fall into the ocean. If you discovered the signs sooner, maybe you would've had extra time to get the civils out of here without causing a panic. No use in thinking of what could've been, you needed to focus on the task at hand.
"Over there!" Camie pointed over to a large amount of rumble pile on top of each. It took you a second glance to spot where Hatchan was. "Hatchin!"
"Camie?!" Hatchan gasped in surprise. "I told you and Pappag to get out of here, what are you doing coming back?"
"I got help, Hatchin." She smiled, a few tears running down from her eyes.
"We're going to get you out of here, Hatchi," you reassured your friend as you helped Jinbei move the rubble.
"Thank you so much," Hatchan cried, overwhelmed with joy.
"Don't thank us till we got you out," Jinbei told him, lifting a large boulder out of the way.
That seemed to have done the trick since Hatchan could begin to move easier. You discarded one last rock that kept your friend trapped in there then Jinbei helped him get out and stand up. You dusted your hands then glanced at the sun, it was nearly consumed by the horizon.
"We need to hurry," you told them, helping Jinbei carry Hatchan to where the escape pods were located.
"Guys!" Pappag waved you all over, relieved to see everyone was okay. "The rest of the citizens already escaped, we're the only ones left. Come on, we gotta hurry."
You navigated the way to where the escape pods are located but stopped when you entered the area. There was only one left, and that could only fit four small people at most. You knew that since you were the one who originally crafted them for the escape. The number you made and the size was perfect, you had taken into account every citizen in Atlantis, there should be enough. That's when you realized, you failed to consider the possibility of people leaving without it being full.
"Everyone head on in," Jinbei ushered, holding the door open for you and the others. Jinbei probably already figured out there wasn't going to be enough room for you all to go. He was making the sacrifice to stay, you didn't want that to happen.
You stood there, tied to the floor, eyes on Jinbei. You could feel the beating of your heart pounding on your ribcage, not wanting to leave him behind. You still had so much to tell him, but now you had so little time.
"What are you doing standing there, [Y/n]-chin?" Camie asked, knowing time was ticking. "Come on."
"Yeah, you too Jinbei," Pappag added with the same urgency in his voice.
"There's not enough room for me," Jinbei informed them and shook his head. "I'll take another one, don't worry."
"But I thought-"
"I- I got another escape pod," you interrupted Pappag, taking a few steps back. "I'll take it with Jinbei, you guys go on ahead. We'll meet you there."
"Hmm, okay..." Camie didn't feel easy for reasons unknown to her, but she took your word for it.
Jinbei hummed, looking at you with a frown. You stared back at him, standing your ground. You weren't going to leave without him, your eyes said it all. Jinbei sighed, he knew how stubborn you are and how arguing wasn't going to do anything to change your mind, right now wasn't the time to argue. He close the door, the both of you waved one final goodbye to your friends before they launched off.
"[Y/n], that was only chance to survive, why did you stay?" Jinbei asked, turning to you.
"I didn't- I didn't want to leave you." Tears formed in your eyes, you did your best to suppress them and stay strong. "I- I have so much I wanna tell you Jinbei... I wanted to tell you in better circumstances but... well... that's never going happen now." You sniffed, rubbing your eyes as you were finally comprehending how death was really approaching.
Big strong arms wrapped around your shoulder, pulling you into a hug. You let go of your pride and began to cry as you embraced Jinbei, resting your head against his chest. Gently, he patted the back of your head.
"[Y/n], if you will, I would like to enjoy the time I have left hearing everything you've been wanting to tell me." Jinbei pulled back and began to wipe away your tears.
"Where do I start?" you chuckled, unsure where to start.
"Start from the beginning," Jinbei suggested simply. There was a small pause before you started you confessing.
"I fell for you... from the moment stood up for me against the other guards..."
There the two of you conversed, waiting for the moment the island begins to fall, ready to go down with it together.
