Theo's POV

The steady drops of drizzling rain continued to pour down, the heavens crying, doing everything in its power to calm my growing anger. The roaring fire inside of me was begging to be set free. Even now, as I held onto Remy, I was still in a state of shock. The panic-stricken mindlink from before stuck on a torment replay in my mind, the fear in his voice... leaving only questions behind ...

How did Vince get this close?

Nate and I had worked out a plan. There was no doubt that Vince would come for him, especially since Remy was an Omega. It would be stupid not to.

Doubling patrols for the past few months in anticipation of an attack, we had everything accounted for: the mountains, the main road in—hell, we even had scouts posted in the next town. It was the only reason I even showed up to those stupid trainings and council meetings, if not to prevent something like this.

But it still happened.

Running through the forest with my heart in the pit of my stomach, I could feel a magnet pulling me in a single direction. The weight of losing Remy was too much to bear. Lost in the endless sea of trees, I wasn't alone—Nate was here. Both of us were searching desperately for him. At that moment, Nate was the only person who understood what I felt. With my heart racing, anxiety and fear fused in one intense feeling, we ran as fast as we could to find our mate.

Barron was fighting for control, his pain masked by his irrational thoughts—his anger already quick to consume him. There were no words. The wolf aggressively barked, frothing with rage, bent on fulfilling his primal desire to find his Luna.

I didn't realize the amount of relief that came when my nose picked up the light, familiar scent of sweet peaches. There it was, under the cover of juneberry bushes, the scent trail led me right to Remy. I would've missed it if it wasn't so ingrained in my mind—the countless nights I'd spent falling asleep to his scent.

"Remy!!" Surprised, I found a wolf instead of a human. I stared down at the shivering creature resting safely in my arms. His drenched bristled fur wasn't doing much to keep him warm. Whether it was the fear or the cold, the wolf continued to shiver violently.

"It's okay, babe, you're safe now," I reassured him, holding him closer. Releasing my soft sage scent, I hoped I could take the edge off of his nerves.

Everything inside of me was slowly falling apart. Barron was fuming, if not on the verge of going berserk. The wolf, losing all reason, was still fighting against me. Like a vengeful toxin slowly seeping into my bloodstream, I used every last bit of my power to struggle and keep him restrained, trying to buy enough time before his wrath exploded.

'I'm gonna fucking kill him,' the wolf snarled. One thing was on his mind—revenge. In a blood rage, the rabid beast's only desire was to make Vince pay for his sins. There was a silent agreement made between us: once we were sure Remy was safe, we would go after the rogue.

'And when I find him, he'll get his shit rocked! I'll rip his whole body to shreds. There won't be a trace of him left.' Barron's dark threats were only a vague reflection of what was deep inside our heart.

I never knew he could become this unhinged. The damage that would come from an unchecked wolf like him was unimaginable and yet—I didn't care to hold him back this time.

'Let's just get him home,' I stated. We still had to make sure to secure Remy in a safe place.

Nate's long strides paced ahead of me as I carried Remy back home. Through the sibilant rain, the Alpha was constantly scanning the area, sniffing and checking for any signs of tracks. His energy was not the same as it usually was. The playful, annoying-as-shit attitude had all but evaporated. He was a bit too quiet. Deathly silent, his eyes swirling to a deep crimson red, he was completely focused on finding Vince.
