The weeks flew by in the blink of an eye, and the end of the school year was already thrust upon us. Class by class, all those final projects and stupid, mundane senior activities, finally came to an end. I, for one, couldn't be happier. I had come down with a bad case of senioritis, with seemingly no cure in sight. There was a glimmer of hope I wouldn't have to do this shit again. Like seriously, how many exams did I have to take to show I was smart enough to survive in the adult world? Apparently seven, according to the school board. Cramming for the exams had been a lot easier with Theo as my study partner. When we weren't busy studying biology, I had my own personal tutor for the finals. The guy practically had a test guide for every subject. I felt like I was cheating in some weird way, but I was able to pull through with straight A's to finish off the semester. Nate barely studied and somehow passed all of his exams too. River accused him of bribing his professors for those grades.

'It doesn't make sense. I'm telling you Nate had some deal with his teachers,' my wolf droned on, the principle of the matter driving him to linger on the issue. But there was no point. Whatever mischief Nate did, he got away with it. Naturally.

The faded cobalt metal lockers held onto the vestiges of nostalgia for me as I walked out of that school for the last time. Everything had started here, the spark that set my whole world on fire. Chance encounters, instant connections, my senior year had been one hell of a ride to remember, and now I was leaving as a new person with a promise of a new life.

It was still funny to think how naive I was back then. Believing that I knew so much of the world, only to be utterly wrong. No longer did I have the rose-colored shades blinding my vision. I had seen the evils that lay just beyond in the shadows, but I wasn't afraid anymore. Not when I had two people, the Alphas, who would proudly stand by my side. Really, I had a whole town behind me. I'd like to see someone, anyone, try their shit if they dared to come for me. Because one thing was for sure—I'd be ready for them.

With the frenzy of the semester whining down, there was just one more thing left I was forcibly obligated to do...prom.

There was no way I was getting out of it either. Beth had just about held a gun to my head when I mentioned the possibility of skipping out on the jaded affair.

"Remy Andrew Sinclair, you are going to prom and that's final," the woman gave her verdict on the matter as judge and jury, and I had no say in my conviction. I'd never really seen her this mad at me before. My mom could usually keep herself under control, even over a heated topic. I found it odd and a bit funny she chose to lose her cool over such a frivolous thing.

"Mom, I don't have a middle name," I pointed out, not realizing I was poking the bear.

"I don't care if you do or don't! You're going to prom! Sweety, please, you have to do at least one senior activity!" She retorted. The mere notion of me forgoing my rite of passage ruffled her feathers so much that she resorted to grounding me, only allowing me out of the house to go to the dance. Prom was yet another excuse for her to force staged photoshoots for the endless albums she had of me. Tina didn't even come to my rescue this time, leaving me to take the full wrath of Beth's storm of motherly affection. Since she wasn't going to help me out, I quickly surrendered to Beth's desires. Waving the white flag, it was only a losing battle if I continued on fighting for my own agenda.

'Just do what the woman wants.,' Even River was on her side. The wolf could care less about what Beth was getting me to do; more so he didn't want to see her that upset.

Jeez, can't a guy be antisocial for once?

But that wasn't going to happen now, was it?
