Kash's POV

The sun was slowly beginning to fade, the daylight soft glow had long made its way behind the snowy capped mountains off in the distance. Time was most definitely not on my side, and I could feel a new sense of urgency picking at my nerves, a full panic attack waiting for the right moment when my thoughts would finally turn on me.

But I was trying not to let that happen. At least, not today. For once in my pathetic excuse of a life, something amazing was finally happening.

'Our life is not pathetic!' Haru piped up. The shaggy gray wolf (well-meaning as he was) wasn't helping. Most of the people in Rosewood had strong, ferocious wolves that could unleash unspeakable strength and destruction. There were wolves like that... And then, there was Haru. The wolf was more akin to a harmless hamster—he was scared easily, a complete klutz, and far from anything I'd heard about in the town legends. I was fully convinced at one point that I wasn't even a werewolf. Honestly, the wolf freaked out over butterflies.

'But they're gross! And I hate it when they land on you. What if they lay eggs in your ears, and then the little larvae crawl into your head and cocoon into your braaaiiiin?!' The wolf whined on. Now he was just talking himself into an endless spiral of fear.

'Dude, relax!' I grumbled at the scared creature. It didn't help that his nervous energy would always transfer to me. He was hard to wrangle and, at times, his flighty nature made me sputter out of control. Still, even with all of his issues, I loved my wolf. He was always there for me when I needed him

Nobody's perfect, right?

Today is just a regular day, I kept reminding myself. Anything to quell my anxiety. As much as I wanted it to be a regular day, it wasn't. Quite the opposite—probably like the biggest day of my life, and it made the mounting pressure even more strenuous because in no less than an hour's time I was to be going on...

...A date!

And not just any other date, but a date with the Derrick Miller! The splooge-boat Beta of my dreams.

I was getting foolishly off-track here. I shook my head and, feeling completely out of it, realized I was nowhere close to being ready.

Refocusing for the twentieth time, I skipped my way over to Remy's closet, hoping to yoink a few items from his wardrobe. At this point, we practically shared everything since we both wore the same size clothes. After sifting through a ton of hoodies, I was able to find a decent yellow tee and black jeans.

I took my time getting ready, because I didn't want to be caught slipping on style. I needed everything to be perfect. It wasn't like I was planning on taking forever, but the ring of my name from downstairs snapped me back to reality.

"Kash! Derrick's here," Remy shouted.

Staring up from the sink, the damp foggy mirror revealed a tragic version of myself. My light auburn hair was a mess, and a few pimples had suddenly popped up out of nowhere. Adrenaline pumped through my veins, my senses telling me to quit while I was ahead. I was nowhere close to being done and time had finally run out.

Fudgesicles!

"One minute!" I hurried to do my hair, putting on deodorant and brushing my teeth all at the same time, nearly falling over into the bathtub as I rushed to do everything at once.
