The following morning brought a clear sky, the heavy rain clouds were gone and only the wet earth remained as evidence of the rain.
A strand of sunlight peeked through the window and bathed Jungkook and Jisoo's faces in a golden glow. They awoke from the bright light and Jisoo sat up a little, but Jungkook pulled her back down, gave her a kiss, and said "Good Morning!"
Jisoo smiled, "Morning." She kissed him back, happiness made her forgot for a moment, but then it dawned on her. The smile faded from Jisoo's eyes. She stared at the light streaming in through the window and wished that it could lighten the heaviness she suddenly felt. Yesterday was gone, the blissful couple of hours she spent in Jungkook's arms were gone with it. Today she had to sit Jungkook down and tell him everything and she wondered if he would still say it's such a good morning after he hears what she had to say.
Jungkook could see Jisoo's internal struggle and her uncertainty. He knew what was going through her mind. He pulled her in closer against him and whispered in her ear, "It's going to be okay."
For a couple of seconds none of them spoke, then Jisoo said, more to herself,
"I wish that with all of my heart." She pressed her lips against his, pulled away and without saying a word, got up and walked away.Even though the sun was shining outside, a cloud was hanging over Jisoo the whole morning. Jungkook could feel the stress radiating from her and wished that he could reassure her. He knew she had to talk to him on her own time and didn't want to push her, but hoped that she would do it soon, because he could see it eating away at her.
About 10.15 they heard the now familiar sound of the radio and Jungkook answered, "Morning, Hyun-suk! Good to see we have some sunshine today!"
"Morning, yes, I think everybody is relived for the bit of sunshine we have today. Are you guys still okay there at the cabin, your food supply okay? Because it will still be a couple of days before the river gets to a level where one can cross it," Hyun-suk replied.
Jungkook looked at Jisoo, she was sitting on the edge of the coffee table. "Yes, thank you, we are still okay and we still have enough food for about three, four days," He sat down next to Jisoo and took her hand in his.
Their conversation continued for a couple minutes longer, Hyun-suk gave them messages from Lisa and Jennie and Jungkook ended by asking Hyun-suk to let Jennie know that whatever decision they made regarding the concert, he would support. Jennie had to let the cat out of the bag and tell Hyun-suk and Suhyun who her brother really was and they promised they would keep it to themselves.
Jisoo sat deep in thought, staring at her feet. She didn't even hear Jungkook saying bye to Hyun-suk. Suddenly she stood up and pulled Jungkook by hand, "Walk with me." She led him out the cabin, down the veranda steps and without saying a word, walked up a foot path behind the cabin. The ground was quite slippery but after about twenty minutes climb they reached a flat stretch of rock over looking the cabin and the mountains, and sat down.
Jisoo was sitting between Jungkook's legs with her back towards him, his arms wrapped around her. "It's beautiful, isn't it?" She said, looking at the mountains, the sun reflected off the rain coated rocks which made them shimmer like diamonds.
"Beautiful..." Jungkook repeated but he wasn't looking at the mountains, he was looking at Jisoo. He held her a little tighter and gave a deep sigh.
Jisoo knew it was time. Time for her to face telling Jungkook and time for Jungkook to face reality. "I have an Autoimmune disease where my immune system attacks my liver cells," She paused for a second or two, swallowed hard and continued, "There is no cure," her voice become a little more shaky, "if it is detected at an early stage one can manage it with medication, but mine is advanced which means my only hope is a liver transplant."
Jisoo took a breath, Jungkook didn't say a word, he just listened as Jisoo continued, "But even if they are manage to find me a match, it's not guaranteed that it will work." still Jungkook didn't say anything, "And if I don't get a transplant with in next year," she had to say it out loud so that he could understand, "I'll die. In the meantime, while I wait for them to find me a donor, it will be a difficult road ahead."
For a quite while none of them spoke. Jisoo didn't expect Jungkook to say anything. She expected him to get up and walk away, but he didn't. She waited, but still he just held her.
Jungkook looked out over the spectacular view. Jisoo's words were repeating over and over in his head. He was struggling to understand God's plan. He knew he loved Jisoo, he knew he wanted to be with her for as long as God granted him the grace to do so, but he couldn't understand why God would only give them such a short time. Was a year all he is getting with Jisoo? He always wanted what his parents have, celebrating their thirty-fifth wedding anniversary this year. He wanted kids, lots of them! Was this not ment to be for him? He always believed that he will only get married once and when heet his wife, that he would never look at another woman ever again. His eyes fell on Jisoo and it was as if the profile of her face had been edged in his mind since forever. He knew she will be his wife and it didn't matter if they have one year or fifty years, he trusted God that it will be filled with love and happiness.
He gently kissed Jisoo's temple and said, "I Love You."
