Luigi walked back home with the biggest smile on his face as the morning sun began to rise over the valley, fighting away the glowing blue and replacing it with a warm golden color. All the lights were off once he got back, so he assumed everyone was still asleep. He quietly opened the front door and stepped inside, careful not to make noise and wake anyone so he wouldn't raise any suspicions. He slowly shut the door and took a step, letting out a sigh of relief when the living room lamp was suddenly turned on, causing the man in green to jump.

"I see you're back," Daisy whispered in a low voice, an annoyed look on her face. She was standing next to the lamp she just turned on, her arms crossed, looking like a cop about to interrogate a suspect.

Knowing Daisy, she probably spent hours planning this out. She always liked to make things extra dramatic. This was just classic Daisy. Her plan was probably to strike the most fear into Luigi as possible.

It was working pretty well.

"I-Uh, Daisy! H-hi! What are you doing up?" Luigi stammered, his smile immediately fading and being replaced with a worried expression.

Busted.

"I've got a better question. What were you doing in the woods?" Daisy responded. "It's deathly cold out there. Now is NOT the time to be taking midnight strolls." She pointed out.

What do I do, what do I DO?! Luigi thought to himself, starting to nervously sweat.

Just remain calm. Remain calm, and deny everything!

"T-the woods? I-I wasn't in the woods. I-I was just taking a walk around town!" Luigi lied, immediately regretting it. Why lie such an obvious lie? That was a poor choice of words on his part. As soon as the words left his mouth he knew she'd be able to tell. This is why he should NEVER lie.

"Luigi, you're my best friend. I can tell when you're lying," Daisy scoffed, proving Luigi's point that outright lying was easy to see. His deny everything plan was just utterly stupid, and it only led to him getting caught faster. The princess took a few steps closer to Luigi, so she was only a mere few inches away from him, an almost angry expression on her face. "Alright, the jig is up. You're going to tell me where you keep disappearing to."

"N-nowhere!" Luigi lied again, feeling another wave of regret. He didn't even want to lie. It just slipped out. He really needed to stop. It was getting more and more common, and he hated it. He didn't want to make lying a habit.

"Luigi, do you really not trust me?" Daisy asked, her eyes softening. "Why are you lying to me?! You NEVER lie! Wherever you were, I'd understand. Just, please. It hurts when you keep leaving all of a sudden." She begged.

The guilt was starting to pile up. He wasn't sure if she ACTUALLY felt this way, or if she was just trying to make him feel guilty so he would tell her what was going on, but either way, it was working. He felt like a horrible person.

If she was acting, then she was very, VERY good, because she actually looked upset.

"I... I do trust you, Daisy. I trust you with all that I am. But, I need you to trust that I can't tell you." Luigi whispered, telling the truth this time. It felt much better not to lie.

This was perhaps the first time he didn't lie in this conversation.

"Why not?!" She demanded. "Why can't you tell me? Come on, Luigi. We tell each other everything!"

He gave her an almost hopeless look, pausing for a moment, briefly considering his options.

No, he couldn't tell her.

"I just... can't." He truthfully replied.

Daisy stared at him a moment, trying to understand what was happening. But, alas, she couldn't. She had no idea what he was thinking or where he had been going, and it was frustrating that he wouldn't tell her. She wanted to yell at him, asking what kind of response that was, but she didn't because he was her best friend and she could tell he was being truthful. It made her mad that he wasn't telling her anything, but she couldn't find it in her to keep prying. He clearly wasn't going to give her the information she wanted. But, she wasn't just going to give up and let it be either. So, she just sighed and shook her head, looking down. "Fine. Don't tell me. But you better believe that I will find out eventually."
